In Act I, Scene I servants from each household are
completing errands. When servants from the House of
Capulet meet with the servants from the House of Montague
the audience knows there will be trouble because they are
involved in a bitter feud. The trouble starts when Samson
bites his thumb at his enemies. In Shakespeare’s time this
was a massive insult. When the fight is about to get worse
Benvolio arrives he is a peace-keeper and tries to stop the
fight but then Tybalt arrives and he makes things a lot
worse because he is aggressive and says he hates all
Montague’s

When the Prince arrives he issues a warning saying that if


the fighting continues there will be severe consequences.
