Evolution of Mobile Phones and SMS Marketing

Douglas Ring and W. Rae Young proposed cellular networks for mobile phones in vehicles in 1947. The first automatic mobile phone system was developed in Sweden in 1956. In 1957, a Soviet engineer created the first portable mobile phone. Mobile phones were commercially launched in India in 1995 using GSM and CDMA technologies. SMS marketing became popular as it allows targeted advertising to mobile users and provides assurances that the ad was received. However, concerns include intrusion into personal life and the potential for ads to go unread.
