Lesson
This is a unit on Expository writing. It will last a few
weeks. It will be used to integrate social studies
with language arts and technology.
The lesson will start by the teacher placing the
students into pairs.
The groups will each pick a famous explorer out of a
bag.
The students will use keywords to research their
explorer using the computer.
The students will keep a record of information that
they have obtained from the internet in their social
studies journal.
Lesson continued
The students will also record the website where
they found the information. Wiki will not be
allowed to be used. We will discuss why Wiki is
not a reliable site.
Students will research:
Who, What, Where, When, Why using the
Explorers Presentation Layout page.
When the students have gathered enough
information on their explorer each student will
create their own PowerPoint presentation.
