Firstly, we give honor to God for guiding us in this project and giving us the opportunity to see one more school day. Introduction
This project will provide a clear understanding and analysis of application programs. It introduces us to types of application programs, examples of application programs, where are they used and an explanation of each. This project will seek to help individuals to become familiar with application software to help to answer questions that could not be answered.
What are application programs? An application program is any program designed to perform a specific function to help people perform a certain type of work.

Types of Application Software
Application software can be classified into groups: General Purpose Software Customized Software Custom-written Software Specialized Software Integrated Software
General Purpose Software (GPS)
General purpose software is software used for any general function that allows people to do simple computer tasks. It is referred to as off the shelf software and provides many features that the majority of users want.
E.g.: spreadsheets, Microsoft PowerPoint, games, paint
Where is it utilized?
Word processing applications- to write
reports, memos and letters for assignments. Spreadsheet applications- for calculating large numerical data, stock control in an enterprise. Database applications- For keeping customer records in businesses
Utilization contd
Desktop publishing applications- for creating posters, business cards for companies or assignments. Presentation Software- For creating presentation to show to students, members of staff, etc. Graphics application- To manipulate images that can be used at home, school or businesses. Web design application- For creating personal or business websites.
Customized Software
Customized software is a modified version of general purpose software that is specially developed for some specific organization or user. It is also known as bespoke software.
Where is it utilized?
Customized software is used by small
shops, supermarkets and wholesalesellers to generate bills and to handle details. It is used in hospitals to record details of a patient. Schools use customized software to keep admission details of students
Custom written software
Custom written software is written entirely to the specifications of the user by a developer or programmer. It is more expensive than general purpose software. However, it is more efficient than general purpose software since it only has the programs the user requires. It is not limited to any particular industry or application. It is also referred to as tailor made.
Where is it utilized?
It is used in large companies
Specialized Software
Specialized software is software that is designed to perform tasks specific to a particular application. Specialized software is common in non-computer fields such as manufacturing and accounting. It does not have a wide range of features as the general purpose software, and is not suitable for the average person. Examples: ACCPAC &CAD
Where is it utilized?
Specialized software are utilized in photo and art studios. In accounting Manufacturing Payroll programs
Integrated software
Integrated software is software for personal software that combines the most commonly used functions of many productivity software programs into one application. For instance, the Microsoft Office suite consists of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and more. It makes it easy to share data and it costs less than if you were to buy the components individually. However the packages are very large and you often get functionality you dont need.
