The board member shall monitor and enforce quality standards of nursing practice to ensure the maintenance of efficient, ethical and technical, moral and professional standards in the practice of nursing taking into account the health needs of the nation. It is incumbent upon the Board of Nursing therefore to take the lead in the development and implementation of the competency standards to warrant the health of the public, maintain public trust, and promote the integrity of the nursing profession

Guide in developing curriculum in Nursing Framework in developing test syllabus for entrants into the nursing profession Tool for performance evaluation for nurses Basis for advance nursing practice and specialization Framework for developing a training curriculum for nurses Protect the public from incompetent practitioners Yardstick for unethical and unprofessional practice of nursing

SIGNIFICANCE OF CORE COMPTENCY STANDARDS

SAFE & QUALITY NURSING CARE

Demonstrates Knowledge based on the health/illness of individuals/groups Provides sound decision making in the care of individuals/families/groups considering their beliefs and values Promotes safety and comfort and privacy of clients Sets priorities in nursing care based on clients needs Ensures continuity of care

SAFE AND QUALITY NURSING CARE

Administers medications and other health therapeutics Utilizes the nursing process as framework for nursing
Performs comprehensive and systematic assessment Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with clients and other members of health team Implements planned nursing care to achieve identified outcomes Evaluates progress toward expected outcomes
