Understanding Reported and Indirect Speech

This document discusses reported or indirect speech. It explains how indirect speech recounts what was said using the reporting speaker's own words, changing pronouns, verb tenses, and some words. It provides examples of direct speech and how it is changed to indirect speech based on tense. Specifically, it addresses changing the simple present, present continuous, simple past, past continuous, present perfect, past perfect, and simple future to the appropriate past tense form in indirect speech. It also addresses how imperatives and questions are changed to indirect speech. Finally, it discusses other verbs that can be used instead of "to tell" when reporting speech indirectly.
