Overview of Pervasive Computing

Pervasive computing involves embedding computers and processors into everyday objects and environments to allow for interaction and coordination between these connected devices. It represents the third wave of computing where technology recedes into the background. Realizing pervasive computing requires advances in areas like embedded systems, mobile computing, sensing technologies, and distributed systems. Some challenges to pervasive computing include scalability issues handling billions of devices, integration of heterogeneous systems, and ensuring privacy and security as computers become ubiquitous in daily life. Research initiatives aim to develop technologies and applications to realize Mark Weiser's vision of computers disappearing into our surroundings.

What is pervasive computing?

An environment in which people interact with embedded (and mostly invisible) computers (processors) and in which networked devices are aware of their surroundings and peers and are able to provide services or use services from peers effectively

Evolution
The most profound technologies are those that disappear. They weave themselves into the fabrics of everyday life until they are indistinguishable from it. --------Mark Weiser (1952 1999), XEROX PARC

computing is about making our lives simpler through digital environments that are sensitive, adaptive, and responsive to human needs technology will fundamentally change the nature of computing, allowing most objects we encounter in daily life to be aware, interacting with users in both the physical and virtual worlds.
