1 Introduction
1.1 What is a Book?
In IBM Planning Analytics Workspace, a book is a collection of related data and visualizations that provide
a comprehensive view of your business. A book can contain multiple views, websheets, scorecards,
visualizations, graphics, videos, and embedded web pages. It allows you to organize and analyze your
data in a single place, making it easier to make informed decisions.
1.2 Capabilities of a Book
• Contains multiple views, websheets, scorecards, visualizations, graphics, videos, and embedded
web pages
• Allows data analysis, exploration, and data entry
• Enables synchronization of data across multiple tabs and views
• Supports forecasting, decision optimization, and prescriptive analytics
• Integrates with Microsoft Excel and other external data sources
• Provides conditional formatting, calculations, and data validation
• Offers collaboration features, such as chat and sharing
2 Lab guide: Income Statement Analysis
2.1 Objective
In this lab, you will learn how to create a report in IBM Planning Analytics Workspace 2.0.96 version, to
perform an Income Statement analysis for an organization for the year 2023. You will also learn how to
create visualizations, synchronize data across multiple tabs, and use new advanced selector widgets to
synchronize members.
2.2 Prerequisites
• Familiarity with IBM Planning Analytics concepts
• Must have completed L2 and L3 of IBM Planning Analytics prior to this lab.
This tutorial consists of interactive tasks that help you learn how to use IBM® Planning Analytics
Workspace.
The high-level architecture for the environment described in this document may be summarized as
follows.

1. Provision a TechZone (TZ) environment using this link:

Once you log in, you will be able to view this Planning Analytics workspace environment.

3.1 Creating a Book
1. In IBM Planning Analytics Workspace, click New and click Book
2. You will name the book Income Statement Analysis 2023 by following the below steps.

a. Click the Save icon
b. Click Save as
c. In the Name field, type Income Statement Analysis 2023
d. Click Save
3. In Tab 1: Edit the title and type Income statement analysis
4. Click the Database icon, click 24Retail and click Cubes, type Income Statement and Click Add
new.

5. From the drop downs, change 'Month' to 'YQ' and 'Organization' to 'Florida'.

3.2 Creating a visualization
1. Duplicate the previous view, you can copy and paste the previous view
2. Hover on the duplicated view, go to "Exploration" and click "Pie Chart"
3. Adjust the views in the tab according to your visual requirement
4. Let us enable the "Synchronize" feature
5. Hover on the "Tabular View", Go to "Properties" under the "Synchronization" group
6. Click 'Book' instead of 'Default Sheet' so that synchronization applies to the entire book. From the
drop-down under 'Synchronization group', click 'Book'
7. "Go to 'Hierarchies' below the 'Synchronization' tab and enable 'Synchronize Hierarchies' from the
'Hierarchies' drop-down
8. Repeat the process for the "Pie Chart", following the same steps as used for the tabular view

3.3 Using Selector Widgets
1. In the tab 1 Income statement analysis select the "Year” from the context filter
2. Click the three dots, click Add widget as and click Advanced selector
3. Use the new Advanced selector widget to synchronize members
The final view of tab 1 should look like the snapshot below.
3.4 Creating Tab 2 to show synchronize features
1. Create a new tab named "Financial Health Analysis"
2. Click the Database icon, click "24Retail" database and the "Income Statement" cube
3. Navigate to "Views" and click "High Level PL Report"
4. Click Add view

5. Enable the "Synchronize" feature by going to "Properties" and selecting the entire book. (As
mentioned in step 3.2 and from the point 4)
6. In Hierarchies, disable the "Account" feature from being synchronized
7. Enable the "Synchronize Hierarchies" feature

Note: If you change years, it gets changed in both tabs, and all views will be in a synchronized state.
The final view of tab 2 should look like the snapshot below.
