MATH NOTES: 2020 – 21

T-001
Grade – 3

Dear Children,
Hope you all understood and enjoyed our
E-learning session of Chapter – 4 (Sem II)
Chapter – 4 “MEASUREMENT” (SEM II)
Now it’s time for your NOTES.
Kindly note your notes to be written in Math Class Work

Points to remember:
1m = 100 cm
1 km = 1000 m
1 kg = 1000 g
1l = 1000 ml

Ex: 4.1
B) Convert into cm.
1) 13 cm
Ans
1 m = 100 cm
13 m = 13 x 100 cm
= 1300 cm
2) 29 m 3 cm
Ans
1 m = 100 cm
29 m = 29 x 100 cm
= 2900 cm

29m 3 cm =2900 cm + 3 cm
= 2903 cm

Ex: 4.2
B) Convert into metres & centimetres
1) 817 cm
Ans
100 cm =1m
817 cm = 817 ÷ 100
= 8 m 17 cm.

2) 4608 cm
Ans
100 cm =1m
4608 cm = 4608 ÷ 100
= 46 m 8 cm
Ex : 4. 3
B) Convert into metres
1) 6 km
Ans
1 km =1000 m
6 km = 6 x 1000m
= 6000 m

2) 3km 21 m
Ans
1 km = 1000 m
3 km = 3 x 1000
= 3000 m
3 km 21 m = 3000 m +21 m
=3021 m

Ex: 4.4
B) Convert into kilometres and metres
1) 2000 m
Ans
1000m = 1 km
2000 m = 2000 ÷ 1000
= 2 km
2) 5209 m
Ans
1000 m = 1 km
5209 m = 5209 ÷ 1000
= 5 km 209 m

Ex: 4. 10
B) Convert into grams:
1) 7 kg
Ans
1 kg =1000 g
7 kg = 7 x 1000 g
=7000g

2) 4 kg 912 g
Ans
1 kg =1000 g
4 kg = 4 x 1000 g
= 4000 g
4 kg 912 g =4000 g + 912 g
= 4912 g
Ex 4. 11
B) Convert into kilograms and grams.
1) 1009 g
Ans
1000 g = 1 kg
1009 g = 1009 ÷ 1000
= 1 kg 009 g

2) 4012 g
Ans
1000 g = 1 kg
4012 g = 4012 ÷ 1000
= 4 kg 12 g

Ex: 4.15
B) Convert into milli litres
1) 5 l
Ans
1l = 1000 ml
5l = 5 x 1000 ml
= 5000 ml
2) 9 l 6 ml
Ans
1l = 1000 ml
9l = 9 x1000 ml
= 9000 ml
9 l 6 ml= 9000 ml + 6 ml
= 9006 ml

Ex: 4. 16
B) Convert into litres & millilitres
1) 3000 ml
Ans
1000 ml = 1 l
3000 ml = 3000 ÷ 1000
=3l

2) 8043 ml
Ans
1000 ml = 1 l
8043 ml = 8043 ÷ 1000
=8l 43 ml
WORD PROBLEM
1) Sneha went on a ‘Walk for Charity’ with her
friend, Megha. If Sneha walked 5 km 500 m and
Megha walked 4 km 200 m, how much did they
walk in all? How much more distance did Sneha
walk than Megha?

Ans:
Distance covered by Sneha = 5 km 500 m
Distance covered by Megha = + 4 km 200m
Total distance covered = 9 km 700m

500 m Distance covered by Megha

=
(ii) Distance covered by Sneha than Megha =

km m
5 . 5 0 0
- 4 . 2 0 0
1 . 3 0 0

So Sneha covered 1 km 300 m more distance than megha.

2)Eric bought 2 kg of Brinjal, 1 kg of Cauliflower, 500g of
Tomatoes and 100 g of Green chillies. What is the total
weight of the vegetables he bought?
Ans:
kg g
Weight of Brinjal = 2 . 0 0 0

Weight of Cauliflower = 1 . 0 0 0

Weight of Tomatoes = 0 . 5 0 0

Weight of Green chillies =+ 0 . 1 0 0

3 . 6 0 0
So Eric bought 3 kg 600 g of vegetables in all.

3) Mr. Rao got 16 l 250 ml petrol filled in his car. 9 l 656 ml

petrol was used up. How much petrol was left?
Ans: 0 15 11 14 10
Quantity of petrol in car = 1 6 . 2 5 0
Quantity of petrol used up = - 9 . 6 5 6
Quantity of petrol left = 0 6 . 5 9 4

So., 6 l 594 ml petrol was left in the car.
