6.3.3Working of DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor

• The DHT22 is a high-performance digital sensor Fig 6.1.7 capable of measuring

temperature and relative humidity. It operates by integrating two sensing elements—an
NTC thermistor for temperature and a capacitive humidity sensor for relative humidity.
Below is an explanation of its working principle
• The humidity sensing component of the DHT22 is a moisture holding substrate with
the electrodes applied to the surface .When water vapor is absorbed by the substrate,
ions are released by the substrate which increases the conductivity between the
electrodes. The change in resistance between the two electrodes is proportional to the
relative humidity.
• For measuring temperature this sensor uses a Negative Temperature coefficient
thermistor, which causes a decrease in its resistance value with increase in temperature.
To get larger resistance value even for the smallest change in temperature, this sensor
is usually made up of semi conductor ceramics or polymers.
Application of DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor
• This sensor is used In various applications such as measuring humidity and
temperature value sin heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Weather

19
6.4.1SPI–Serial Peripheral Interface
SPI is a full duplex interface; both master and slave can send data at the same time via
the MOSI and MISO lines respectively. During SPI communication, the data is
simultaneously transmitted (shifted out serially on to the MOSI/SDO bus) and received
(the data on the bus (MISO/SDI) is sampled or read in)
.
6.4.2 UART–Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter
Universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) is one of the simplest and oldest
forms of device-to-device digital communication. You can find UART devices as a part of
integrated circuits (ICs) or as individual components. UARTs communicate between
two separate nodes using a pair of wires and a common ground.

6.4.3 I2C Interface–Inter Integrated circuit

6.6 IR Sensor
An IR (Infrared) sensor works by emitting invisible infrared light (from an IR LED) and
detecting the reflection of that light (using an IR photodiode or phototransistor), converting the
light intensity into an electrical signal to sense objects, distance, or motion. In active sensors, this
reflected light changes based on an object's presence, distance, or heat, allowing the sensor to
trigger a response, like opening a door or guiding a robot.

6.6.1 IR Sensor Specifications:

• Operating Voltage: 3 to 5 VDC

• Detection Range: 2 to 10 cm
• Detection Angle: 35°
• Mounting Hole: 3m

25
Fig 6.6: IR sensor

6.6.2Pin Configuration
• VCC: Power Supply Input (+3.3V to +5V DC).

• GND: Ground / Power Supply Negative.

• OUT: Digital Output.

Working Principle: The IR Sensor works by emitting a high- frequency sound wave, which
bounces off any obstacle in front of it. The sensor then measures the time it takes for the wave
to return to the sensor, and using the speed of sound, it calculates the distance to the object. This
measurement can then be used by the robot’s microcontroller to make decisions about its
movement, such as avoiding obstacles.

Application sin Rover Bot: The IR sensor is used for obstacle detection and distance
measurement in the Rover Bot. It helps the robot navigate by determining the distance to
objects in its path, allowing it to avoid collisions by changing direction or stopping when
an obstacle is detected.
6.6.3Advantages:

• Cost-Effective: The IR sensor is inexpensive and widely available, making it an

excellent choice for low-cost robotics projects.

• Simple Interface: It only requires basic interfacing with a microcontroller and is easy to
integrate in to a variety of systems.

• Accurate Measurements: It provides accurate distance readings over a broad range,

ensuring reliable navigation for the robot.

6.6.4 Limitations:

• Affected by Environment: The sensor’s performance can be affected by en-

vironmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

26
• Limited Range: The maximum measuring range is limited to 4 meters, which may
not be sufficient for certain applications requiring long-range sensing.

advantages, and applications, A snapshot of Rocker-Bogie mechanism is shown in Figure3.7.

Fig 6.8.1:Rocker-Bogiemechanism
6.8.2Key Features
• Design: The rocker-bogie system consists of two main components: the rocker andthe
bogie.

• Rocker: A rigid frame that pivots around a central axis, connecting two wheels or
tracks on each end.

• Bogie: Another rigid frame that is attached to the rocker at a pivot point, allowing it
to move up and down relative to the rocker.

adapt to uneven surfaces by allowing the wheels or tracks to maintain contact with
the ground, improving traction and stability.
• Multi-Wheel Configuration: The rocker-bogie can support multiple wheels
(typically two to four), allowing for better weight distribution and traction, especially
on rough terrains.
Operation
• When one wheel encounters an obstacle or dips into a hole, the rocker pivots, causing the
opposite wheel to lift while keeping the other wheel in contact with the ground. This pi
voting action helps maintain stability and ensures that at least some wheels remain in
contact with the terrain.

• The bogie also pivots in response to terrain variations, allowing for additional
movement and flexibility in navigating obstacles.

MQ9 SENSOR
• The MQ9 sensor have altogether 4 pins in which the Vcc pin is connected to the
51
common point A in the Board where as the Ground pin is connected to m the
common point B in the Board.

• The analog output pin is connected to the GPIO35 pin of the [Link] working of
the MQ9 sensor is very similar to all other sensors only.

• In this sensor the sensor senses the carbon monoxide gas in the surrounding and send it
to the ESP32 in the same analog form where it is further converted in to readable form
by ESP32 Controller.

CHAPTER 9

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION

• The rover successfully collected data on various environmental parameters such as temperature,
humidity, and air quality (e.g., CO, NH₃ gas levels). Sensor data was transmitted wirelessly and
displayed on a remote IoT platform (e.g., a mobile app or web dashboard) for analysis and
processing. The integrated GPS module provided accurate location coordinates (typically within ±5
meters accuracy), allowing users to track the rover's position in real-time. This feature facilitated
both manual remote control and autonomous navigation to specified locations.
• The IoT-based rover system is a viable and efficient solution for monitoring environmental
conditions and ensuring safety in challenging environments. The integration of IoT, GPS, and sensor
technology successfully provides a comprehensive, real-time surveillance and data collection
platform that minimizes human risk and enhances operational efficiency.

• Basically, the output or the Result will be viewed in the Serial Monitor and in the
BLYNK APP.
• In the serial monitor we get a message of saying the current status of the soil moisture
like if the soil moisture is dry then we get a message saying the “The soil is too dry-time to
water”, if the soil moisture is correct means we get a message saying “The soil moisture
is perfect” and finally if the soil becomes wet, we get a message saying
“The soil is too wet”.
• If the range is less than 500 means the soil is too wet, if it is between 500 and 750
means the soil is perfect and finally if more than 750 means the soil is dry.
• The temperature and Humidity reading also we get where the temperature in the degree
Celsius unit and Humidity in relative Humidity unit (H).
• Carbon monoxide reading we get where if the value of the voltage is zero means the sensor
is not working properly at same time if the value is less than 0.4 means the sensor is pre
heating and Not ox in gas like Carbon monoxide is detected in our surrounding.
• The light intensity value will increase if we supply any external light like torch light.
And in the serial monitor it is represented as BRIGHT and in BLYNK app as light
intensity.
• DC water pump will be controlled by using the ON and OFF switch of the BLYNKAPP
which is connected to GPIO21 Digital pin of BLYNK app.
