need to include.
2.1 DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
2.1.1 ESTABLISHMENT OF PLASTER SPOTS
This involves the application of plaster to create small patches or spots.
Having considered using mortar like plaster spots, we first had to prepare the mortar which was
to be used. We had to batch the materials in a ratio of 1:3; the materials were mixed in their
dry state, and later sufficient volume of water was added to achieve a workable mortar paste.
We sighted points to receive plaster spots, and the areas sighted were sprinkled with water to
mitigate the rate of suction.
Then we considered the extreme corner of the wall to be rendered, introduced the first plaster
spot using a building trowel in applying the mortar at 300mm from the floor level and used a
measuring tape to achieve the required plaster thickness, which was 25mm.
Vertically was achieved by transferring the introduced plaster spot at the bottom to the top
using a plumb bob. The same procedure was repeated at the other end of the wall.
Since the wall was long, we used lines and pins to get the intermediate points, hence achieving
horizontal.
This procedure was repeated all around the walls of the structure that were to be rendered.

2.1.2 ERECTION OF SCAFFOLDS
This is the process of building a temporary structure, typically made of poles and boards, that
provides a stable platform for workers to access elevated areas during construction.
We used a dependent scaffold as the type, and mainly we used timber as the members of the
scaffold. We then determined the distances of the standards, which were uniform, after we
erected the scaffold. Dismantling, S. E. (n.d.). scribd. Retrieved from [Link]
2.1.3 RENDERING
This refers to the application of a layer of cement-based material to the exterior walls of a
building. This layer serves to protect the walls from the elements, enhance the building`s
appearance and potentially improve its thermal insulation.
We started applying mortar on the walls using building trowels. After applying, we removed
excess mortar by use of straight edge to achieve verticality and horizontality, then we started
scouring using wooden float and achieved a rendered surface.

2.1.4 REBATING
This refers to a recess cut into the edge of a piece of material to allow creating a
flush or overlapping joint and mainly deals with finishes, so after applying mortar and
scouring, we started making finishes on doors and windows and also on air ventilators.

2.2 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2.3 NEW KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED DURING TRAINING
2.2.1 ERECTION OF SCAFFOLDS:
I learnt how to use different tools like a bow saw blade and a tape measure.
6
2.2.2 RENDERING
I learnt how to plaster walls.
I also learnt how to use a trowel, straight edge to ensure verticality of the wall, etc.
I also learnt how to use a building square to ensure right angles.
2.2.3 GENERAL NEW KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED
I got to appreciate the theoretical knowledge I came with from class and related it
with the practices I found in field. This helped me to understand the concepts the
more.
I also came to see equipment I had never seen before come into the field, such as
the bow saw blade.
I also came to meet up new people in field of all aspects in life who are important
in the society we live in.
I also learnt that different measurements are required for the different
construction work.
2.3 CHALLENGES OBSERVED DURING THE INTERNSHIP TRAINING
PERIOD
At times, some workers would defy the safety rules and principles during work;
little did they know that such negligence would cost them their lives.
I also faced a problem of moving long distance to and from site on a daily.
I faced the problem of language barrier since I had to work with individuals
speaking different languages.
I faced a problem of bad weather conditions which sometimes which sometimes
made it hard for work to progress as earlier planned and which delayed work.
2.3.1 RESOLUTIONS TO CHALLENGES
Purchase of new equipment and regular maintenance of old equipment to ensure
that they are in good working condition to reduce the incidents of work stalling due
to machine breakdown.
Provision of a systematic and clear work plan and briefing to the workers in addition
to proper supervision in order to improve on the pace of the works.
Utilization of the available personal protective equipment such as helmets to
protect oneself against the scorching sunshine.
Provision of clean drinking water on site to improve on the working conditions,
7
especially in hot sunshine and reduce diseases associated with unsafe drinking
water.
Provision of some allowances help with feeding and transport expenses during
internship.
2.4 RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER WORKERS AND THE SUPERVISOR
The workers I found on site felt like family to me. We had a very good relationship and
this facilitated smooth execution of the different tasks on site.
It helped me acquire a lot of knowledge which may not necessarily be taught during the
course of our studies as professional engineers but vital in the construction phase.
The supervisor always inquired about my well-being at site and this boosted my moral
and love for the profession. He offered all kind of assistance whenever I asked him
regardless of his tight work schedules.

CHAPTER THREE
3.1 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
3.2 CONCLUSION
I really thank everyone who made this training period a success. I also thank all the team that
was on site for they followed all the principles of engineering and they did quality work. I want
to thank my supervisor for all the efforts he put in to make sure that this training was successful.
I look forward to working with you again if given an opportunity.
3.3 RECOMMENDATIONS
The university should always plan internship period free of any university program that
might interfere with students during training.
Workers should be sensitized enough and reminded of the advantages and principles of
safety.
The college should consider facilitating all students during industrial training period.
The contractor should employ workers for night shift to increase on productivity and
hence profits to the company.
