You will be given six statements each from a different subject area and asked to choose to
argue for or against.
You will have first 30 mins to prep with your teammates.
You will then have one hour or 40 mins to compose the most persuasive essay possible.
Finally you will have 15 mins to do corrections.
EACH MEMBER MUST CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOPIC.
During the thirty- minute team planning.
Discuss all six topics together.
Make sure everyone understands them.
Choose the topic you feel most confident about.
Share quick ideas and examples with each other.
Help each other brain storm structure: intro, 2-3 body points and a strong conclusion.
During the one hour or 40 mins individual writing.
Stick to your plan.
Don’t go off topic even if you get new ideas stay focused.
Take a clear stand (for or against) and support it with logic and examples. (make sure to
indicate it in the first sentence)
Use paragraphs properly: clear introduction, body with evidence and conclusion.
Add creativity: WSC appreciates humour, fictional examples, analogies and wit.
Leave 5-10minutes for self- editing.
During the 15- minute group editing.
Swap essays with teammates and give quick constructive feedback.
Focus on clarity and flow.
Make sure tone and voice are consistent, but allow each person’s personality to shine.
Encourage and support each other.
Build confidence and don’t criticize harshly.
