Last summer I decided to take a short course in creative writing.

I had
always loved reading novels, (1) ______ I had never tried to write one
myself. The course promised to be inspiring and practical. It was quite
expensive; (2) ______, I felt it would be a good investment in my skills.

The first day was exciting. The teacher was very enthusiastic; (3) ______,
some of the students looked nervous. We began with simple exercises.
(4) ______ most people wrote only a few sentences, one student produced
an entire page in ten minutes. The teacher praised her work; (5) ______,
he reminded us that everyone progresses at a different pace.

Halfway through the course, we were asked to start planning a short

myself to focus for at least an hour. My story slowly began to make sense.

By the final week, everyone was feeling more confident. Some students
