1 Overview
HP Workpath, formerly HP JetAdvantage Link, is a new open developer platform from HP that enables software
applications (apps) to be installed on compatible HP printers running HP FutureSmart 4. This platform includes
Software Development Kits (SDKs) in industry standard development technologies that will be used by HP and
Independent Software Vendors to develop Apps that extend the Firmware capability.
CAUTION: HP does not recommend using deep sleep settings when HP Workpath Apps are installed. In some
situations, the printer will not wake from deep sleep. For more information, contact the HP Command Center
Admin before installing HP Workpath Apps.
An app developed in the HP Workpath SDK can be run on the printer. For a list of available apps from HP, go to
App descriptions.
Before installing HP Workpath Apps, partners must first have an invitation from an HP Command Center Admin to
create an HP Command Center account.
After creating an account, partners can use this document to set up and configure HP Workpath Apps on printers.

2 Setup checklist
Use the following checklist to ensure that the HP Workpath app and printer requirements are met before
deploying the HP Command Center solution in a business environment.
● Set up an account:
– Make sure the printer is running HP FutureSmart firmware version 4.9 or newer.
NOTE: Printers running older firmware versions cannot access the HP Workpath Platform or use
HP Workpath Apps.
– Install a DIMM accessory if the printer does not have sufficient memory to run the app platform. For a
list of printers that need to install this accessory, go to Printers compatible with HP Workpath Apps.
– Make sure an Embedded Web Server (EWS) password is set (optional but required to perform many
steps).
– If the network environment uses a proxy server, make sure the proxy settings are set in the EWS for
each printer on which an app is intended to be used.
– Make sure HP Web Services is enabled in the (EWS) for each printer.
– Make sure the HP JetAdvantage Link (HP Workpath) platform is enabled in the EWS for each printer.
After enabling this setting, a remote reboot of the printer is required before continuing.
– Add the printer to the account by connecting the printer to and registering the printer with the
HP Command Center cloud from the control panel of each printer.

configured in the EWS.
NOTE: Registering with HP Web Services only needs to be completed at initial log on. If this has already
been configured in the EWS, you will not receive this prompt and can skip this step.
b. Select the check box I have read and agree to the above documents.
6. Use a phone to scan the QR code. The HP Command Center claim screen opens.
NOTE: You can also write down the claim code, open a web browser, and go to
[Link]/claim.
a. Go to [Link]
1. On the registration screen, select an account from the Account drop-down menu and select Connect.
The printer is assigned to the account and registered with the HP Command Center (HPCC) cloud.
The HP Sign In Once (SIO) feature links the user credentials with the cloud by enabling users to securely save their
credentials to the cloud and log in to each app only one time. This provides the best user experience by reducing
the number of sign-ins required to access applications and to securely connect to a user’s cloud account.
NOTE: You will be prompted by the app to use these credentials and whether or not you want to allow an
HP Workpath App to securely store the credentials in the HP Cloud SIO Vault.
1. Go to [Link]
3. You may choose to invite a single or multiple end users to create an HP ID account.
Create a Single User by providing the user's First name, Last name and a valid Email address. To onboard
Multiple Users, download the available template and import users from a .csv file.
You can track the status of all invitations after they are sent. A “Registered” status will appear once the user
has successfully completed their HP Account.
The user will receive an email to finish their registration by selecting “Create an HP Account” in the email
invitation. The user will be prompted to complete the registration fields (including a password) and sign up
to complete the process. The following verification will display once completed:
NOTE: Only HP-developed Apps Support Cloud SIO. Some third-party apps or auth agents might not be
supported and will require validation from the respective solution developers. Supported third-parties will be
announced in future releases. For more information, go to Authentication agent accounts and the HP Cloud Sign
In Once (SIO) Vault.
NOTE: The sign-in method (auth agent) will vary depending on the environment. Common sign-in
methods use the following Authentication (Auth) Agents:
● Whitelisted: Windows, Embedded Smart Card, HP Secure Print, or Secure Access, etc.
● Third-party: HP Access Control (HPAC), PaperCut, or SafeCom, etc. Third-party auth agents require
two-factor authentication. After initial login, third-party auth agents will still need to enter a PIN every
time they sign-in to the printer.
2. Install and configure the auth agent sign-in method on the printer using the Embedded Web Server.
NOTE: The configuration steps will vary depending on the environment. This is typically configured using
the device Embedded Web Server (EWS) on the Security tab or configured for a fleet of devices via Web
JetAdmin (WJA). You can also use a server-client or the printer control panel.
c. Assign the authentication agent as the default sign-in method for the printer.
Set up a sign in method and enable the Sign In Once (SIO) feature on a printer 19
3. Repeat the steps above for each printer.
NOTE: All installed HP Workpath apps installed via HP Command Center will need access to the
authentication agent to be used with Sign In Once (SIO).
a. Go to [Link]
b. Click Enable.
d. Select the printer(s) on which you want to enable the feature and click Next.
NOTE: You can also select Enable later (to configure later within 72 hours).
f. Select Enable.
After SIO has been enabled, the user will need to sign in using their device authentication agent with their
HP ID account the first time they log in to the printer to complete the HP Cloud SIO set up process.
6. Provide the Auth Agent sign-in credentials to each new user and include the instructions from the section
Link account and store credentials to the HP Cloud SIO vault.
To view a list of printers with SIO enabled, under the Status section, click the Sign in once for Link button to view
the status on the home page.
The first time a user logs into the printer after SIO has been enabled, they will be prompted to link their account
with the cloud vault. After this initial login using an HP ID and linking their account, users will not need to log
in again to the same app. To complete the Sign In Once (SIO) set up process and store user credentials in the
HP Cloud SIO vault, follow these steps:
a. From the control panel, sign in to the printer using a registered sign-in method (auth agent): Windows,
Smartcard (NIPRNET), Secure Access, and so on.
NOTE: If you do not have the registered sign-in (auth agent) credentials needed specifically for this
step only, contact the device administrator.
c. Sign in to the printer using an HP ID (see the section Create an HP ID for each user).
d. Select Done to confirm. The printer is now linked to the cloud account.
NOTE: You will need to type this PIN every time you open the app, but you will not need to re-enter
your HP ID (when SIO-connected).
A confirmation appears that the app account was saved to the HP Cloud vault.
c. Select OK.
d. Select the Home button to exit the app and return to the control panel.
e. Repeat the steps above for each app while signed into your cloud account.
NOTE: If your company is using a badge reader, you will need to swipe an identity badge and create a
six-digit PIN to sign in.
b. Open an app. When successfully linked, a ‘person’ icon appears next to the user’s name.
c. Perform any tasks in the app and when finished, select the Home button to exit the app.
NOTE: If you sign out of the app, you will be prompted to sign in next time you open the app.
SIO credentials are stored in the HP Cloud SIO Vault and the Sign in Once setup is complete. As long as the user
stays signed in, they will not need to log in when they next open the app. The cloud connection is indicated by the
user profile name.
After configuring the printer and setting up HP Command Center, HP Workpath Apps can be installed on a
supported HP printer using HP Command Center from a web browser.
NOTE: Depending on the app versions available, the functionality might vary and the app might not be
installable especially if the app version is not supported in the HP Workpath platform version installed on the
printer. HP recommends updating the printer firmware with the latest firmware available from [Link] to
ensure app and platform compatibility. After app installation, an information icon will indicate when app
updates are available.
a. Go to [Link]
3. Make sure the Link Enablement setting is enabled on the printer (required to install apps). See the section

new updates are available for the app, an information icon will display next to the app name. HP
recommends updating to the latest version of the app.
9. Repeat the steps above for any additional apps you want to install.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT perform a Partial Clean or Factory Reset and do NOT downgrade the firmware on any
printer installing apps on the printer. The associated cloud ID will be deleted and cause a mismatch error in
HP Command Center. If a reset, partial clean, or formatter replacement, etc. is needed, first disable Sign-In
Once, remove all installed apps, and then remove the printer from HP Command Center.
