Abstract
Confidence is an essential skill that supports students’ communication, academic performance,
and personal development. However, many secondary students experience low confidence,
particularly in public speaking situations. This study examined the influence of school radio
broadcasting participation on the confidence levels of students at Apo Macote National High
School during the School Year 2025–2026. A quantitative correlational research design was
employed, involving 30 high school students who were active members of the school radio
broadcasting program and were selected through purposive sampling.
Data were collected using a survey questionnaire consisting of a participation scale adapted from
Tullao and Bernardo (2022) and a confidence scale adopted from McCroskey’s (1988)
Communication Apprehension, Avoidance, and Effectiveness framework. Descriptive statistics
were used to determine students’ levels of participation and confidence, while Pearson’s product-
moment correlation coefficient was applied to examine the relationship between the variables.
The results indicated that students demonstrated moderately high levels of both participation and
confidence. Moreover, a very strong and statistically significant positive relationship was found
between participation in radio broadcasting and students’ confidence levels. Based on these
findings, the null hypothesis was rejected. The study concludes that school radio broadcasting is
an effective platform for enhancing students’ communication confidence and supports the
strengthening of broadcasting programs to promote holistic student development.
