SUMMARY:
Ma’am Grace gave us a task to interview a child or a person with special needs. For this activity, I
think the Arcilla family, specifically my best friend’s parents, whom I have known since childhood.
Before conducting, I first asked permission from their grandmother, whom I could talk to clearly, and she
then allowed me to ask Erika, her apo my bestfriend, regarding this. Since both parents are Deaf and I
have limited knowledge of sign language, I communicated through their daughter, who willingly and
kindly helped in sharing the needed information. Through this, I learned that despite their condition, they
are highly capable and independent. They work hard to support their children by providing education,
daily needs, and a LOT. They actively engage in such many activities and responsibilities, except for
hearing and speaking. This experience helped me realized that they are not less capable than others; in
many ways, they’re even stronger and more resilient. Most importantly, they deserve deep respect for this
— they’re perseverance and dedication to family.
