Team NOVONEX presents 'SmartPosture', a wearable device aimed at improving posture and preventing musculoskeletal discomfort. The device uses a flex sensor to monitor spine curvature and provides real-time feedback to users when they slouch. Targeting students, office workers, and gamers, the prototype promotes preventive healthcare by encouraging healthy posture habits and reducing long-term health risks.

Good morning respected judges and fellow innovators, we the Team NOVONEX from 1st year computer enggBefore we dive into our project, we invite you to take a moment to assess your own posture. Are you si ng upright, shoulders back, and feet flat on the floor? If not, you're not alone. Studies indicate that approximately 70.5% of individuals report musculoskeletal discomfort, par cularly in the neck, lower back, and shoulders, o en due to poor posture [Link] u our project which is "SmartPosture" - a solu on designed to help people maintain a healthy posture and prevent the long term problems caused by poor body alignment Our theme is Open Innova on for Social Well-being and Healthcare, and we believe posture correc on is a crucial, yet overlooked, health issue.

Let me give you an overview of our idea. We call it SmartPosture — a simple but powerful wearable device that helps people maintain healthy posture. It uses a flex sensor placed along the back to measure spine curvature, an Arduino Uno to process the data, and a 3.5-inch TFT display to show posture status in real me. If the user slouches for more than a few seconds, the vibra on motor gently alerts them to sit upright again. according to WHO In 2020, around 619 million people globally were affected by low back pain — about 1 in 13 people. Poor posture is one of the most common but ignored causes of back pain, fa gue, and reduced efficiency. By giving affordable, real- me feedback, our device promotes preven ve healthcare and helps people build healthy habits before serious problems develop.

slide 3,4 about demo Technically we follow a simple loop: Detect → Process → Alert → Correct. Key details: we calibrate a baseline at startup (user sits upright), we apply a moving-average filter to smooth noise, and we use a persistence window (e.g., >8 seconds) plus hysteresis so short movements don’t trigger false alerts. Thresholds are adjustable per user; future versions can add an IMU for sensor fusion
{SLIDE 5} AAMAN
Our prototype, built with off-the-shelf parts at a cost of just ₹1,800–2,400, directly addresses these challenges. The main hurdles are sensor placement variability, false alerts, and ensuring comfort across different body types — which we mi gate through calibra on, adjustable thresholds, and lightweight design. Our primary users are students, office workers, and gamers — groups most at risk of posture-related health issues. Research shows that 60% of students experience posture-related pain by the age of 20. 84% of office workers report musculoskeletal discomfort from long desk hours. Gamers o en sit for 8+ hours daily, pu ng them at high risk of spinal problems. The benefits are clear: upright posture improves breathing efficiency by up to 30%, boos ng comfort and energy; while correct posture reduces fa gue and back strain, improving focus and produc vity by nearly 20%. This is preven ve healthcare — small, daily nudges that reduce long-term medical risks.
Your spine deserves the best line — so let’s stay aligned. Together, we can turn this prototype into a product that empowers millions to live healthier, happier, and more produc ve lives.
