Instructions for Electrical Machines Lab:
1. Prioritize Safety: Be mindful of potential hazards associated with electrical circuits
and machines. Always be cautious and alert around high-voltage equipment. Follow
safety measures diligently.
2. Dress code (to ensure safety):
a. Always wear closed-toe shoes preferably with non-slip/rubber soles to reduce
the likelihood of electrical current passing through your body in case you come
in contact with live wire or high voltage line.
b. Avoid wearing loose jewellery, such as bracelets, necklaces, and long earrings,
as they can become entangled in equipment.
c. Tie back long hair to prevent it from getting caught in equipment or coming into
contact with high voltage supply.
d. Do not wear overly loose clothing that could get caught in machinery or pose a
safety risk.
3. Read and Understand: Carefully read the lab manual before coming to the lab.
Understand the objective and procedures for the experiment you'll be conducting.
4. Write lab record in advance: Please write the lab record by writing the aim/objective,
procedure, circuit diagram(s), observation table, and sample calculation(s) before
coming to the lab. The student will not be allowed to carryout the experiment if the lab
record is not written or incomplete.
5. Equipment Familiarization: Get acquainted with the electrical machines, switches,
controls, and measuring instruments that you'll be using. If in doubt, ask questions to
the course instructor or teaching assistants (TAs).
6. Secure Wiring and Connections: Make sure your electrical connections are secure
and accurate to avoid short circuits or loose connections. Use appropriate wire sizes.
7. Avoid Rush Through: Avoid rushing through the experiments. Take your time to
understand the steps, wire connections and concepts involved in each experiment.
8. Seek Guidance: If you encounter difficulties or have questions, don't hesitate to ask
for help. Your safety and understanding is our priorities.
9. Don’t Panic: In case of minor mishaps, remain calm. Seek assistance and follow proper
procedures to address the situation safely.
