Diploma in General Agriculture (KNEC)

1. FARM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Classes: Cutting tools, Digging tools, Lifting tools, Measuring tools, Striking tools, Workshop tools.

Maintenance: Clean after use, Sharpen, Oil, Store dry, Replace broken handles.

2. FARM POWER

Sources: Human, Animal, Mechanical, Electrical, Renewable.

Mechanical advantages: Efficient, Fast, Powerful, Works long hours.

3. TRACTOR SYSTEMS

Engine, Fuel, Cooling, Lubrication, Transmission, Hydraulic, Braking, Steering.

4. TRACTOR IMPLEMENTS

Primary tillage: Mouldboard, Disc plough.

Secondary: Harrows, Cultivators.

Planting: Seed drills, Planters.

Harvesting: Combine harvester, Mower.

5. TILLAGE & LAND PREPARATION

Objectives: Break soil, Aeration, Weed control, Mix manure, Good seedbed.

Types: Primary, Secondary, Minimum tillage.

6. IRRIGATION & WATER MANAGEMENT

Methods: Surface, Sprinkler, Drip.

Drip advantages: Water saving, Low weeds, Fertigation.

7. DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

Types: Surface drainage, Subsurface drainage.


8. SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION

Qualities: Durable, Ventilated, Good drainage, Easy to clean, Pest-proof.

10. WORKSHOP SAFETY

Rules: PPE, Clean tools, Store chemicals safely, Switch off machines, Avoid loose clothing.
