II. PROJECT RATIONALE
The Runo Sewing Services had been established through the partnership of
BLGU-Runruno and FCF Minerals Corporation. During the last semester of
2018, FCF Minerals Corporation through the Social Development and
Management Program (SDMP) funded the Sewing Project of the selected
women of Brgy. Runruno. Promoting self-sustaining and economically viable
household and organizational enterprises by providing community-based
organizations (CBOs) access to funds and technical assistance. The objective
of the Sewing Project is to provide women with sewing and needle work skills
which they can use to generate incomes for themselves and their families. With
the purpose of supplying the needed PPE uniform of FCF Minerals Corporation
as their primary client.
Runruno Sewing Services is a business offers that general seamstress work to
Runruno community. The mission is to serve local sewing needs primarily for,
but not limited to, clothing. This business is unique in that textile design services
are offered in addition to traditional seamstress work.
With a running sewing services, there are always expansion options that should
be considered in order to create more opportunities for the community. The
benefits created by expanding the sewing services to produce different items.
One of the items that is needed within the community is school uniforms. All of
the children are required to wear certain apparel in order to attend school, and if
it could be made within the community then the middle man would be cut out
and prices of the uniforms would drastically decrease. There is clearly a large
need and a good market for the sewing centre to produce the uniforms, but
there are obstacles that would need to be overcome. The first barrier would be
the difficulty of actually sewing of clothing in the local community.
Some other items that would be useful within the community, but are simple to
make, include eco-bag and shopping bags. This could help the community in
reducing the used of plastic bags during buying of goods through the used of
eco-bag.
RSS is about three years in their business and is gearing towards becoming to
be self-sustaining and self-reliant. Guided by the FCF’s Community Relations
Office (CRO) Livelihood section, they plan to embark on entrepreneurial sewing
ventures such as establishing wider market avenue aside from FCF Minerals
Corporation and utilize their skills to create other saleable items and products
for increased profit.
IV. Project Objectives
General Objective:
To increase income of the members by at least 30% through expansion
of its sewing business;
Specific Objectives:
1. Improve self-employment opportunities and increase income by at
least 30% of 6 member’s monthly income.
2. To produce a PPE uniform, School uniform, eco-bags/tote bags and
souvenir items;

The current target market of RSS is the local community. As a local seamstress
available for mending, alterations, or custom projects designed with clients,
anyone willing to drive to the shop is in the target market.

face classes of students.

VII. Sustainability of the Business
To become a legal business entity, FCF – CRO Livelihood Section assisted the
business registration of the group with DTI. They were also aided to establish
network and linkages with government line agencies for skills upgrading
primarily with TESDA Community- Based Training for Dressmaking. The
recent training with TESDA resulted for the six (6) women sewers to become
holder of two (2) NC IIs, the Tailoring and Dressmaking.
To increase their entrepreneurial skills, a benchmarking activity at the nearest
sewing production factory in the province was conducted for exposure of the
group to mass sewing production and to acquire additional sewing technique.
This is also to open the horizon of sewing business opportunities for them to be
more inspired and motivated to expand their current sewing operation and
become more profitable through the shared business tips and ideas of other
entrepreneurs.
The sewers also learned the skills of procuring production materials direct from
Divisoria where prices are much lower compared to the local market of Nueva
Vizcaya. They have now an established supplier of materials from Manila and
supplier of sewing machines from Santiago City, Isabela. Sourced from their
income, the group recently acquired additional nine (9) various types of
industrial sewing machines and to date, they have a total of 16 sewing
machines.
