Primary Data
It is a data collected from the primary sources.
It is also known as "Basic data".

It takes more time to collect data.

It is required to take time at the time of collecting data.
Secondary Data
It is a data collected from secondary sources.
It is also known as "Subsidiary data".
The collection of secondary data is less expensive than primary data.
It takes less time to collect data.
Secondary data is less accurate than primary data.
It is also known as "Second Hand Data".
It is not required to take time at the time of collecting data.

Precautions in Use of Secondary
Data
Suitability of data: The investigator must satisfy himself that the data is
available and suitable for purpose of enquiry.
Adequacy of data: If the data is suitable for the purpose of investigation then
we must consider whether the data is useful for present analysis.
Reliability of data: The data can be tested and the collecting agents used
proper methods for the data reliable.
