Chapter 4: The Structured Prompt Format

Stop using comma-separated lists. Suno understands structured, hierarchical information far better. ChadGPT
The proven format uses clear sections with colons and quoted descriptors: u/Reggimoral Moderator

Why it works: Suno was trained on professional music metadata using categorical structure. This is its
native language. On desktop, click "show summary" and hover over sections—each gets underlined as a
unit, showing Suno parsed it correctly. View all moderators
Critical Rules:
INSTALLED APPS
Use periods, not commas. Commas signal optional elements
Use "and" and "with" for conjunctions. This creates run-on sentences instead
Flooding Assistant
Avoid natural language paragraphs, poetic phrasing, and JSON blocks
Use periods ending each conceptual unit to prevent section blending
Chapter 5: Lyric Bleed Prevention Reddit Rules Privacy Policy User Agreement Accessibility
Reddit, Inc. © 2025. All rights reserved.
What Triggers It:
Short poetic lines in your style prompt
Brackets that look like stage directions
ALL CAPS slogans
Quoted phrases that could be lyrics
An empty lyrics box
Prose that scans rhythmically
Solutions:
Keep prompts metadata-like and dense (technical descriptions don't scan as lyrics)
Avoid quotes unless inside structured fields
Always put something in the lyrics box
Avoid lyrical rhythm in prompts
Use this divider at the top of the Lyrics box: ///*****///
Chapter 6: MAX Mode & Quality Parameters
How MAX Mode Works: Specific bracketed formatting communicates to Suno's internal routing that you
want maximum capability tier. This allocates computational resources differently.
Complete MAX Mode Template:
[Is_MAX_MODE: MAX](MAX)
[QUALITY: MAX](MAX)
[REALISM: MAX](MAX)
[REAL_INSTRUMENTS: MAX](MAX)
[START_ON: TRUE]
[START_ON: "write out the first few words of lyrics here"]

The Complete Guide to Mastering Suno : r/SunoAI [Link]
[START_ON: "write out the first few words of lyrics here"]
Create
genre: "your genre here"
instrumentation: "your instrument descriptions"
style tags: "your style descriptions"
Genre-Dependent Effectiveness:
Substantial improvement: Acoustic, country, folk, singer-songwriter, orchestral
Minimal improvement: Electronic, trap, hip-hop beats, synthwave (unreality is the aesthetic point)
Chapter 7: Song Structure Control
Skip the Intro:
[START_ON: TRUE]
[START_ON: "type the first few words of your lyrics here"]
Duet Voice Control:
[DUET_START_ON: TRUE]
[MALE_START_ON: "first few lyrics"]
[FEMALE_START_ON: "first few lyrics"]
Important: These tags are strong suggestions rather than absolute commands. Effectiveness varies by
genre.
Chapter 8: Exclude Styles Parameter
Use this instead of negation language (Suno sometimes ignores "no male vocals" but reliably respects
exclusions).
Vocal Control:
Female voices only: Exclude "Male Vocal"
Rap without singing: Exclude "Singing, Melodic Vocals"
Male voices only: Exclude "Female Vocal"
Instrument Control:
Acoustic only: Exclude "Electronic, Synthesizer, Drum Machine"
Electronic only: Exclude "Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Drums, Acoustic Piano"
Genre Control:
Pure rock: Exclude "Electronic, Hip Hop, Pop"
Classical purity: Exclude "Modern, Electronic, Pop"
Chapter 9: Vocal Gender & Weirdness Parameters
Vocal Gender: Provides direct control over main vocal line. More reliable than style descriptions alone.
Combine with detailed persona descriptions for best results.
Weirdness Parameter (0-100%, default 50%):
0-30%: Safe, predictable results (commercial pop, covers, classic styles)
40-60%: Balanced creativity with control (interesting results with recognizable adherence)
70-100%: Experimental territory (surprising, creative interpretations)
Genre-Appropriate Settings:
Classic genres: 30-50%
Experimental: 60-80%
Unusual fusions: 70-90%
Covers/tributes: 10-30%
Chapter 10: Style Influence Parameter
Controls how strictly Suno follows your style tags (0-100%, moderate settings default).
3 of 7 28/12/2025, 9:33 am
The Complete Guide to Mastering Suno : r/SunoAI [Link]
Optimal Settings:
Create
Vague tags: High Style Influence (70-90%)
Specific tags: Moderate Style Influence (40-60%)
Experimental work: Low Style Influence (20-40%)
Chapter 11: Realism Vocabulary
Use technical terms describing actual recording characteristics, not abstract vibes.
Acoustic Realism Descriptors: Small room acoustics, room tone, close mic presence, off-axis mic
placement, proximity effect, single-mic capture, one-take performance, natural timing drift, natural
dynamics, breath detail.
Performance Detail: Mouth noise, pick noise, fret squeak, finger movement noise, chair creak, light mic
handling noise.
Analog Character: Tape saturation, analog warmth, harmonic grit, slight wow and flutter, gentle preamp
drive.
Spatial Realism: Limited stereo, mono or narrow image, realistic reverb type, early reflections
emphasized, imperfections kept.
Chapter 12: Eliminating the Generic Sawtooth Synth
Problem: Suno loves sawtooth synths—they're loud, fill space, and dominate training data.
Solution: Don't say "no saws." Give Suno something else to latch onto.
Strategy 1: Replace with Specific Synthesis Types FM synthesis bass, wavetable movement, formant-
driven bass, granular textures, spectral morphing.
Strategy 2: Describe Motion Evolving modulation, LFO-driven movement, dynamic harmonic motion,
non-repeating bass cycles.
Strategy 3: Shape Harmonics Rounded harmonic profile, asymmetric waveforms, odd-harmonic
emphasis, band-limited synthesis.
Strategy 4: Use Bass Archetypes Reese bass, neuro bass, growl bass, sub-driven bass.
Strategy 5: Control High End Smooth top end, controlled high harmonics, anti-aliasing, clean high-
frequency rolloff.
Strategy 6: Kill Stereo Width Center-focused bass, mono-stable low end, phase-coherent layers.
Complete Anti-Saw Prompt: "FM and wavetable bass design, evolving modulation, non-repeating
harmonic motion, rounded harmonic profile, controlled high end, phase-coherent low end, clean punch."
Chapter 13: Meta Tags for Section Control
Meta tags are bracketed instructions in your lyrics that override the global style prompt for specific
sections.
Basic Structure:
[Chorus | anthemic chorus | stacked harmonies | modern pop polish]
Stack tags with pipes for more control:
[guitar solo | 80s glam metal lead guitar | heavy distortion | wide stereo | whammy bar bends]
Essential Meta Tag Categories:
Structure Tags: [Intro], [Verse], [Chorus], [Pre-Chorus], [Bridge], [Build], [Drop], [Breakdown], [Outro]
Vocal Tags: [raspy lead vocal], [autotuned delivery], [stacked harmonies], [anthemic chorus], [spoken word
verse], [emotional build-up], [crowd-style vocals]
Instrumental Tags: [guitar solo], [808 sub bass], [60s jangly guitar rhythm], [sidechained synth bass],
[pedal steel guitar], [orchestral strings]
Production Tags: [hall reverb], [room reverb], [plate reverb], [spring reverb], [echo], [delay], [distortion],
[overdrive]
4 of 7 28/12/2025, 9:33 am
The Complete Guide to Mastering Suno : r/SunoAI [Link]
Energy Tags: [high energy], [medium energy], [low energy], [building energy], [explosive energy],
[melancholic], [euphoric], [nostalgic], [dreamy], [aggressive], [peaceful], [mysterious] Create
Critical Rule: Meta tags belong in your lyrics field at the beginning of each section, not scattered
throughout the style prompt.
Chapter 14: Post-Processing Techniques
Built-In Remaster with Metadata: Add these tags at the top of your displayed lyrics before remastering:
[high_fidelity], [studio_mix], [analog_warmth], [crystal_clarity], [punchy_dynamics], [tape_saturation],
[vocal_depth], [smooth_transients]
Cover-Based Remastering (More Effective): Covers preserve structure and genre while improving
quality. Use minimal prompt:
Genre: Original genre with high fidelity recording and professional mastering.
Instrumentation: Acoustic drums with realistic sound.
Mastering: Clean, modern, professional sound.
Song-to-Song Transplant: Generate sections separately, extract them, and splice into main track. Use
Cover with Weirdness: 0, Style Influence: 100, Audio Influence: 100. Seams usually show, but it works for
impossible combinations.
Chapter 15: Building Effective Personas
A persona must be a character dossier, not a label.
The Persona Stack:
1. Demographics: Age, gender, voice type, fundamental character
2. Technical Delivery: How they sing, enunciation, phrasing, breath control, techniques
3. Emotional Context: Feeling behind performance—detached, passionate, vulnerable, aggressive
4. Sonic Anchor: Artist comparisons giving Suno clear targets
Example: "Female contralto, androgynous, cold, monotone delivery, sharp enunciation, emotionally
numb, sinister tone, reminiscent of Grimes with HEALTH-like atmosphere."
This dramatically reduces vocal variance because you've given Suno multiple overlapping constraints
pointing toward a specific voice.
Chapter 16: Genre-Specific Strategies
Acoustic & Folk Production: Use realism descriptors mandatory. Employ: small room acoustics, room
tone, close mic presence, proximity effect, natural dynamics, breath detail, pick noise, fret squeak, tape
saturation.
Complete Acoustic Prompt: "Acoustic folk, one person, one guitar. Single acoustic guitar with
fingerpicking, baritone vocals with emotional phrasing. Recording: one-take performance, natural
dynamics. Style: authentic, tape recorder, close-up, raw texture, handheld, narrow mono, small bedroom,
unpolished, dry. Sound: small room acoustics, close mic, proximity effect, natural timing drift, breath
detail, pick noise, fret squeak, tape saturation, analog warmth, limited stereo, background noise floor
consistent."
Electronic & Hip-Hop Production: Shift away from realism language. Focus on synthesis descriptors and
modulation.
Synthesis Descriptors: FM synthesis, evolving modulation, LFO-driven movement, dynamic harmonic
motion, resonant bandpass, sub-driven design.
Complete Electronic Prompt: "Synthwave EDM, driving bassline. Synthesizer lead, wavetable movement,
FM synthesis bass with evolving modulation, electronic drums with punchy dynamics, TR-808 sub bass
with sidechain compression. Style: dark atmosphere, mysterious, nostalgic 80s, wide stereo, wall of sound,
synth-heavy, reverb with early reflections. Production: modern mastering, high fidelity, clean transients,
punchy compression, polished professional sound."
Rock & Alternative Production: Balance instrumentation specificity with emotional direction.
Complete Rock Prompt: "Alternative rock with post-punk. Electric guitar with power chords and lead
lines, driving kick-snare rhythm, bass locked with kick, male vocals with emotional intensity. Style:
introspective yet anthemic, raw energy, dark atmosphere, 90s alternative, distorted guitars, reverb-heavy.
Instrumentation: full band, dense layering, atmospheric guitars, powerful drums."
Chapter 17: Timing Strategies
5 of 7 28/12/2025, 9:33 am
The Complete Guide to Mastering Suno : r/SunoAI [Link]
Chapter 17: Timing Strategies
Peak Performance Window: 3:00 AM - 4:30 AM in your local timezone shows consistent improvement Create
across geographically distributed users.
Practical Application: Schedule critical generations during this window. Quality variance matters less
during exploratory work.
Additional Observations:
High traffic times appear to produce lower quality (server load distribution)
Generations receive more processing power immediately before credits run out
Chapter 18: Lyric Writing Fundamentals
Plan Before Writing: Your planning phase should consume as much time as actual writing.
yes, its a self plug. VRSA is a free songwriting studio with no ads, no tracking, no weird vibes and direct
Suno integration. VRS/A - AI Lyric Assistant
Okay. That’s it. Commercial break over.
Three Essential Decisions:
1. Identify your genre (worship, EDM, pop-rock, country, experimental)
2. Define emotional space (intimate, stadium-sized, nostalgic, raw)
3. Acknowledge constraints (no swearing, singability, tempo, length)
Constraints are creative friends, not enemies. They guide every decision about vocabulary and
emotional arc.
Song Structure Building Blocks:
Intro: Mood-setting, often instrumental
Verse: Story-telling with changing lyrics
Pre-Chorus: Builds tension and anticipation
Chorus: Main thesis, emotional punchline
Bridge: Different angle or emotional shift
Tag/Outro: Final idea or wind-down
Instrumental Breaks: Breathing space
Syllable Count & Line Structure:
Syllables per line: 6-10 for most genres
Lines per section: 4 standard, 8 for longer
Keep consistency: Plus/minus 1-2 syllable variance
Test by reading aloud rhythmically
The One Metaphor Rule: Pick one metaphor and go deep. Don't jump between water, fire, air, and earth
imagery. One image with many facets maintains listener focus and intentionality.
Formatting Lyrics:
Loud/intense: Use CAPITALS
Calm/quiet: Use lowercase
Background vocals: Use parentheses
Section separation: Use blank lines between [Verse], [Chorus], etc.
Avoid extended vowels: Often get messed up
Red Flags to Avoid:
Generic adjective overload ("neon skies, electric hearts, endless dreams")
Inconsistent rhyme schemes
Section boundary violations
No sense of breath (lines too wordy to sing in one breath)
Chapter 19: Advanced Tips & Philosophy
The Hypothesis Testing Approach:
1. Hypothesize a prompt structure and parameter combination
2. Generate
3. Listen critically and identify what succeeded/failed
4. Refine for next iteration
6 of 7 28/12/2025, 9:33 am
The Complete Guide to Mastering Suno : r/SunoAI [Link]
4. Refine for next iteration
Build a Personal Knowledge Base: Document successful approaches with exact prompts, parameters, Create
model version, and meta-tags.
Embrace Evolution: Suno is constantly improving. Stay curious, test new techniques, maintain willingness
to abandon approaches that no longer serve.
Thumbs Down Does Nothing: Only the report function reliably tells Suno it failed.
Thumbnail Quality Predicts Audio Quality: When batch generating, visual appeal of thumbnails
predicts audio quality better than other preliminary signals.
Final Mindset: Suno rewards clarity, constraint, and statistical alignment—not creativity in the
traditional sense. Treat it like a probabilistic instrument. Your job is to guide it precisely toward your sonic
vision using its native language of structured metadata.

Awesome guide thank you for the tips as a beginner to Suno. I do have to say as someone who is
an avid listener of lots of different genres and a pretty big music aficionado, Suno has zero
subtlety and textural or rhythmic variation. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get this thing to
generate something that isn’t soft, loud chorus 4/4 time etc. I’ve built about a dozen songs I’m
proud of so far, but it took thousands and thousands of tries and I can still immediately tell from
those that they lack the substance of any real artist.
Either way, a very cool technology and interesting to see where it goes. I love real music and real
musicians so I think I’m also grappling with how I feel about AI being used for art instead of work

Awesome! good to some of my post stuff got included! It's well structured so I doubt AI helped
with that part. My Google Doc reads as a pick your own adventure book because of Gemini
