Sermon Topic; “We shall be like Jesus”
Text: 1John.3:1-3
GREETINGS
Praise be to God almighty, for this beautiful opportunity
Honorable teachers and all my dear fellow brothers and sisters,
I greet you all in the mighty name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
I take this opportunity, to thank our PRESIDENT DR. [Link] AND
CFO MRS. ELIZABETH THOMAS FOR THEIR LOVE AND CARE.
I could like to saw my heartfelt gratitude to all my respected teachers for
molded me and equipped me in the word of God for the ministry of God’s
Kingdom, and all my dear beloved brothers and sisters thank you for your
constant prayer and support for me and my family.
At last I would like give all the Honor and glory to my living God, For His
unconditional Love, grace and mercy in me.
Before going into the word of God let’s have a word of prayer.
In this very morning I would like to draw your undivided attention toward
the theme of 63rd graduation “WE SHALL BE LIKE JESUS”. Which
is based on The Epistle of (1st John3:1-3). The Apostle John writes this
Epistle to the early Christian communities, likely around 90-95 AD.
When John writes this epistle; the early Christian communities were
facing false teachings. They were dealing with false prophets and
teachings that threatened their faith. They were having confusion about
Jesus. Struggling with sin and obedience. They were grappling with sin,
obedience, and how to live as Christians (1 John. 1:8-10; 2:1-2). So John
writes this to guide, correct and encourages them in their faith.
1
Apostle John begins the chapter 3 with resounding cry of wonder and
delight. He is emphasizing the concepts of God’s love, our identity as His
children, and the call to purity.
In V.1 He is emphasizing about loving one another and living a life that
reflects God’s Character.
And In V.2 he is exploring about the present identity and Future certainty
of the believers or the followers of Jesus Christ that transformation into
Christ likeness.
And In V.3 He emphasizes about the qualification to be like Jesus.
And today we will focus on future certainty that is one of the great
promise of God and central faith and future hope of the believers that
“We shall be like Jesus”.
Now I want to draw your undivided attention toward the beautiful theme .
That “We shall be Like Him” so question what is the likeness of Jesus?
Likeness of Jesus, it means not that we will be God; beloved, the Bible says
something powerful in verse 2. Saying “We are God’s Children”. This is not
just a future promise; this is our present identity. Not, tomorrow, not later, But
we are God’s children right now. but in V.2 John is talking to us that “It has
not yet been revealed that what we will be” it means our life in Christ is not
yet finished, God is still working on us, we may be weak today we may struggle
with sin, we may be suffering. But our future is glorious. And John gives us a
sure Hope, that “When He shall appear, we shall be Like Him, for we shall
see Him as He is.” What a Promise! One day Jesus will return and we will see
him face to face and at that moment God will transform us in glorious body that
will never perish. And Apostle Paul says in Philippians. 3:21 “He will
transform our lowly body to glorious body”.
2
It means this earthly body is temporary; in this earthly body we have Sickness,
Weakness, Pain, Suffering, Temptation, disease, death. But in that glorious
body we will have when Christ returns that will be free from Pain, suffering,
Temptation, difficulties, challenges, and Death because that is imperishable,
that is eternal and that will never perish that will be forever and ever with Christ
in heaven.
So Question comes here who are the people who have this great opportunity, to
be Like Jesus? Is the all Christian, Pastor, Prophets, Apostle, Teachers,
Evangelists or the Bible college student? No my beloved John is not speaking
about all of them. But clearly John answers in V.3 that “Everyone who have
this Hope purify Yourself, Just as he is pure”.
So my beloved in Christ for this Future Promise we don’t need any earthly
qualification such as Prime Minister, Chief minister, MLA, MP, Collector,
Engineer, Doctor, like superstar, Megastar. These qualifications are not required
to be Like Jesus but to be like Jesus needed the heavenly qualification that is
Purity, and Holiness. So let see 1st one that is
1. Purity or Pure Heart
Pure heart which means not that listening Christ and doing own.
Because Bible says Human heart is Deceitful in all things and
desperately wicked” But the Pure Heart is sincere and genuine in
love and Obedient to God.
A pure heart is a clean and free from all the evil desires, evil
work and Evil plan.
A pure heart is a heart that is full of grace, care and compassion.
A Pure Heart is that free from all enmity, A pure heart does not
have Proud, Does not hate others. Does not jealous.
But a pure heart is transparent like water, Pure like gold and Melt
like a candle.
3
A Pure heart is selfless,
And Bible says in (Matthew. 5:8) “Blessed are the pure heart for
they shall see Jesus” and to Be like Jesus first we have to see Jesus,
we have to encounter with God face to face. Same thing John says
in 1st john 3:2 says whoever will see Jesus as he is “will be like
Him”. So my dear friend in Christ; to be like Jesus we need Pure
heart.
Until and unless we have purity in our heart we cannot see Jesus
and cannot be like Him. That does why Bible says purify
yourselves. So my friend we need to purify ourselves in the blood
of Christ, we need to sanctify and justify by the Holy Spirit then
only we can be Like Him. When He will appear. Let move toward
to the Second Qualification. Which is Holiness.
2. Holiness
God said “be Holy because I am Holy” we can live in this earth by
doing any anything that we want, and we can go to the church by
Drunk alcohol, we can go to the church by saying lie, we can go to
Church by doing anything, and even we can stay in the Bible
college by doing anything we wish but to go Heaven and Meet
Jesus face to face need a glorious body, Need Purity, and Need
Holiness and without this can’t.
My dear beloved in Christ to be Like Him required Holiness. So
What is Holiness? Holiness which means :
Who walk blamelessly
Who work faithfully
And who speak truth fully
So my dear brother and sister unless and until we walk
blamelessly, work righteously, and faithfully. We cannot display
His Character.
4
If our tongue says one and eye say one then our word is not truth.
And if we do what eve we wish; then it is not righteous.
And if we are doing anything to show others not God then we are
not faithful servant of God.
And until and unless we born again we can’t do it but who are truly
born again in Christ. The Spirit of God dwells in them and they can
live those lives and the Holy spirit help in every weakness. He
strengthens us to be like Jesus because when the Holy Spirit dwell
in us. He will guide our steps to walk blamelessly.
He will strengthen us to work righteously
And He give confidence to speak truthfully.
So my Beloved in Christ. We need Purity and Holiness to be like
Jesus.
S how can we be Holy and Pure. My beloved to be pure we have to
take a strong steps and apply in our daily life. Such as
