1)Draw the block diagram of a Fiber Optic Communication (FOC) system and describe the function of
each block. / Explain with neat diagram the elements of an optical fiber transmission link./ .Explain the
principle of optical data transmission showing signal processing elements at the transmit side as well as
receiver side.
2)Differentiate between single-mode and multi-mode fibers with neat sketch.
4)Describe the step-by-step procedure for fusion splicing with neat sketch.
5)A step index fiber has the normalized frequency of 26.6 at 1300 nm. If the core radius is 25 m, find the
numerical aperture.
6) A silica optical fiber with a large core diameter has a core refractive index of1.5 and a Cladding
refractive index of 1.47. Determine the acceptance angle in air for the fiber.
7)Assume that there is a glass of refractive index1.5surrounded by air. Find the critical and incidence
angle.
8)The relative refractive index difference for an optical fiber is 1%. Determine the critical angle at the
core cladding interface if the core refractive index is 1.46. Draw the structures of single and multimode
step index fibers and graded index fiber with their typical dimensions.
9)Calculate the numerical aperture, cut-off parameter and number of modes supported by a fiber having
