A tutorial is a transmission of knowledge in a more interactive way. It includes examples and it is usually more
visual than a common set of instructions. Online tutorials are today used by many computer users to learn
about a wide range of aspects. The creators of tutorials are experts of the topic they talk about or common
users that want to teach and assist people that may need help.

In the speaking task, the students will make their own tutorial. To do so, they can use the following programs:
hypercam, audacity, movie-maker, etc.
If they are not acquainted with these programs, they can use easier methods such as recording themselves
with a camera or just recording the audio. You can also ask for the IT teacher's help.
They will need microphones.
It is important that they use the appropriate grammar structures to give instructions. It is advisable for them
to create an outline with ideas and information they want to include.

Once the video tutorial has been created, the groups show it to the class. The rest of students can evaluate
their work paying attention to grammar, English, clarity or presentation among other aspects. It is also a
good idea to organise a competition for choosing the best tutorial of the class.

Suggested answers:

Mrs Torres’s answers are inappropriate.

- Reason for leaving the job: She says, “I quit. My boss was not a very nice person. She was too bossy and
demanding.” You shouldn't speak badly about your former bosses or colleagues.

- Description of tasks: She says, “I was the secretary.” You should list your job duties. A good answer would be:
“I was the secretary. I was responsible of maintaining office systems including data management and filing,
meeting and greeting visitors and taking dictation and minutes.”

- Strengths: She says, “I am good at typewriting. I type 140 words per minute.” You should describe the way you
work and use adjectives that describe your personal qualities. A good response would be: “I am well organised,
and have a calm and professional manner. I have tact and discretion and I am good at multi-tasking.”

- Weaknesses: She says, “Actually, I do not have any weakness. I consider myself a very hard-working person.”
Hiring managers know that no one is perfect. They want to know that you are aware that you make mistakes
but know how to deal with them or are trying to fix them. For example, if you are not very good at public
speaking, a good answer would be “I used to be nervous when it came to public speaking. Last year I took
public speaking classes and realized how much fun it could be. Now I actually look forward to speaking in front
of groups.”

-Languages: She says, “I'm afraid I was never good at languages at school.” You should never highlight your
weaknesses. If you are not good at languages, you can say that you are trying to improve your level of certain
language. “I have a basic level of English but I intend to start taking classes in a near future.”

3.
The questions are:
Tell me about yourself.
Why did you leave the job?
What exactly did you do (in your last job)?
What do you consider your greatest strength?
May I ask you what your greatest weakness is?
Why are you interested in working for us?
What are your salary requirements?
What are your career goals?
Do you have any questions to ask me?

Other common interview questions are:

What do you know about this company?
Why should we hire you?
Why do you want this job?
Describe a difficult experience at work and how you handled it.
