Today's Reflection:
Today was my first day as a student teacher, which was both thrilling and nerve-
racking. I arrived at school beforehand, excited to connect with my mentor instructor
and students. My mentor teacher, Ms Bashe, greeted me nicely and introduced
me to the students.
We began the day by attending the school assembly, and then we attended the
grade 9A class, where I observed Ms Bashe teach a lesson on Debtors journal. She
utilized a range of instructional strategies, such as learner books and copies, to
engage learners and make the lesson more interactive. I was impressed with her
ability to effectively manage the classroom and distinguish guidance according to the
needs of diverse students.

Second, we attended another economics and management class in Grade 8 D. The

students were given homework for the previous class. Ms Bashe then asked all
students to take out their books. She walked around the class, checking to see if
everyone had done their homework.
Throughout the day, I made records and thought about my discoveries and incidents.
As unforeseen circumstances came up, such as students failing to complete their
homework and a few students exhibiting issues with behavior, I noticed the
significance of having been open to change as a teacher. Ms Bashe dealt with these
circumstances peacefully and successfully, exemplifying competence and durability.

Ultimately, the initial day as a student educator was an excellent learning

opportunity. I am looking toward to staying engaged by taking classes from Ms
Bashe and the other educators. I am thrilled to advance as a teacher and positively
impact my future students.

Ambitions for the next day

- Observe Ms Bashe's teaching strategies.

- Learn lesson planning and preparation skills.
- Also eager to develop relationships with students and educators.

I observe Ms. Silwana teaching Economics and Management Sciences in grade 9C.
The presented lesson was Debtors Journal; during the lesson, she noticed a quiet
student in the class who was not participating. then, the educator had not noticed
him before. As a result, she asked if he was in that class. As the boy was about to
respond, two other boys in the class replied that he had been promoted. The boy
was embarrassed and almost tried.
The teacher immediately addressed the students, telling them that what they were
doing was bullying and that bullying is more than just beating someone. What they're
doing is emotional abuse. She also explained that no one ever asked themselves
what they were saying. Second, they must understand their role and refrain from
interfering with the affairs of others. She instructed the boys to apologize, and the
lesson proceeded in peace.

I learned two things today: first, it's important to know every student in class. Second,
I learned classroom management as the teacher immediately addressed those
students.

On this day, I observed Ms Bashe teaching grade 9A about the National Credit Act
and Regulations. She corrected the homework assigned for the previous lesson
(debtors control). Some students did not complete their homework, so she punished
them by giving them another opportunity to do the activity right away. She instructed
them to kneel next to the chalkboard and do the work.

I learned the importance of establishing clear expectations and enforcing

repercussions when those expectations are not met. Second, the successful impact
of immediate feedback in enhancing learning objectives and correcting
misconceptions

Today I observed a grade 12 C accounting morning class. The lesson went
smoothly, with students actively participating and eager to learn. I also observed a
grade 12 C Economics class, where the teacher presented the lesson clearly and
interestingly. Students were asked questions, and the responses were positive. They
were able to differentiate the types of markets.
I discovered the value of accurate lesson planning in keeping students fascinated
and concentrated. I discovered how the teacher retains an enjoyable learning
atmosphere, handles disruptions, and promotes respectful behavior. Also important
is having a thorough understanding of the material you are imparting and conveying
that passion to your students.

A student brought a spray gun to school and used it inside the classrooms, causing
chaos as students scattered to avoid it. An investigation was conducted in the
suspected class, with all the boys being called and searched, but the spray gun was
not found, and none of them admitted to it. Eventually, one student voluntarily came
to the staff room and confessed to the act. Further investigation led to the truth being
revealed.

I observed a grade 12 C Economics class, and the lesson was a continuation of

market forms. The teacher drew the graphs and asked the students to identify the
differences. None of them were able to distinguish the differences. The teacher then
explained that they were unable to identify the difference because there was no
difference between those graphs. My mentor showed me how to create a lesson
plan so that I could begin presenting my lessons the following week.

I learned the value of creating a classroom environment in which learners have

confidence in analyzing and discussing sophisticated ideas, which encourages
greater understanding as well as retention. Second, the students were not
responding because they lacked confidence in themselves; otherwise, they knew the
lesson. lastly, I attended a parent meeting.

Ms Demane was correcting a homework assignment, the Cash Receipts journal, in
grade 8B. While she was presenting and writing on the board, some students did not
participate. Some students were not even writing their corrections and were making
noise. I learned that there are times when I need to adjust my methods of instruction
by offering extra encouragement or enrichment activities to ensure that all students
can connect with the material. Learn how to act on the ground, change my
approaches to instruction while I fly, and stay cool and collected in stressful
situations.

When I arrived at the class, I inadvertently left my phone in my laptop bag, which I
then placed in Ms. Bashe's office. Upon returning, I discovered my phone was
missing from my bag. I requested Ms. Demane's phone to call mine, but it went
unanswered. Subsequently, I reported the incident to my mentor, who then informed
the principal. Upon investigation, the principal recalled a student seeking permission
to leave while heavy rain was coming. The student denied having my phone, but
upon inspection of her schoolbag, my phone was found, though the student claimed
it belonged to her sister. However, upon checking the phone, my information
confirmed it was indeed mine. Additionally, my mentor discovered her missing
money, but unfortunately, it was not returned by the student.

Today, I observed a grade 9C EMS class where the teacher was reviewing and
correcting homework assigned in the previous session. The students were actively
engaged and participated in the class discussions.
24/04/2024
I commenced my practical teaching session with grade 9A, focusing on the debtor's journal. I
demonstrated to the class how to compute the cost of sales, determine profit mark-up, and
effectively document this information in the debtor's journal. Afterward, I assigned them a
homework task to evaluate their comprehension of the material covered in class

I also assumed responsibility for teaching grade 8A lessons, taking over from Ms. Bashe. In
the previous lesson, the students had been assigned homework activity 7.1. Therefore, I
conducted corrections with them, providing feedback and making necessary marks.

Today, I attended a grade 9A class where we reviewed and corrected homework
assignments. Following, that, I demonstrated to the students how to calculate the cost of
sale when provided with a fraction representing the mark-up percentage. After that, I
assigned them homework to assess their comprehension of the material.

I conducted corrections in grade 8A (CRJ), followed by assigning another homework
activity. Afterward, I prepared for the upcoming class where we will begin a new unit
on Accounting Equations. Additionally, I attended a parent meeting, which was
separated by grades due to room capacity constraints

Today, I began teaching the Accounting Equation. I started with the theoretical
concepts to ensure that the students grasped the terminology used. They took notes
during the lesson, and in our next session, we will delve into the practical application
of the accounting equation. I was informed that I would be taking over Grade 9C from
Ms. Silwana and continue teaching the class. I also conducted homework corrections
for Grade 8D (CRJ) and informed the students that we would be starting on
accounting equations in our next class. Additionally, I composed a memo to assist
my mentor in requesting school furniture at Buffalo City TVET College.
