INTRODUCTION:

A livelihood improvement strategy refers to a comprehensive plan or approach aimed at

enhancing the well-being and economic status of individuals or communities. It involves a set of
interventions and initiatives designed to improve people’s access to resources, opportunities, and
services that can help them secure sustainable livelihoods.

A rural community is a settlement or area that is located outside urban centers, typically
characterized by a smaller population size, agricultural activities, and limited access to
infrastructure and services compared to urban area.

Poverty is a condition characterized by the lack of basic necessities required for a minimum
standard of living. It encompasses various dimensions such as lack of income, inadequate access
to education, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, housing, and food insecurity. (World Bank.
2019).

MAINBODY:

i. BELOW IS A KIND OF A LIVELIHOOD IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY WE ARE

DESIGNED.

Agricultural diversification and value addition in processing and marketing; This strategy
are designed to reduce the challenge of poverty and help in improving livelihoods for a rural
community, we can use this strategy to encourage members of that community about reducing
the notion of basing with only one type of crop but building ability on engaging in agricultural
diversification which can enable to reduce the challenges caused by climate change because
there are some of crops have ability to withstand climate change as well as we will educate them
on how to increase the value of their products for example through processing like maize to
change maize into flour which will help in increasing the quality and market value so through
that can enable on avoiding the challenge of market fluctuation. (IFAD 2021).

STRATEGY WE ARE CHOSEN.

Access to finance: can significantly enhance the livelihoods of agricultural communities by

providing them with means to invest in their farms, purchase equipment, and adopt modern

agricultural practices. For example, a farming access to finance may struggle to buy high-quality
seeds, fertilizers, or machinery, limiting their productivity. With access to finance, farmers can
secure loans to invest in these resources, increasing their yields and income. Additionally they
can use financial services like crop insurance to mitigate risks from unpredictable weather or
market fluctuations. Access to affordable credit is crucial for farmers to invest in new crops or
livestock enterprises. Microfinance institutions or cooperatives can provide loans at reasonable
interest rates to help farmers get started. (FAO 2021).

Providing Technical Assistance: among strategy to improve livelihood significant poverty

challenges is to provide technical assistance that involves increasing the productivity in
agricultural practices. Agriculture is often a primary source of livelihood for many rural
populations, through training on modern farming techniques, sustainable practices, and access to
better seeds and tools; through this strategy it can help farmers to increase their yields and
incomes. They all need to improve the product quality through the using of irrigation system and
other techniques so as to assist them in their livelihood for rural community. (Mwangi 2018).

Infrastructure Development: this was an essential for agriculture diversification and value
addition as it ensuring the sustainability of designed strategy for poverty reduction through
investing infrastructure project such as roads bridges schools and energy facilities. Also the
government can create an enabling environment that supports economic growth and poverty
alleviation. Also due to infrastructure development it led to improved market access because of
road and job creation due to construction of roads which creating employment opportunities thus
stimulating economic activity. (World Bank. 2019).

Institutional support: this was mainly from the government agencies or private sectors that
were necessary for implementing the strategy effectively such as policy support technology
assistance financial resources and capacity building initiatives and extension workers also it
support by providing framework for collaboration and ensuring accountability. In addition they
create policies that addresses systemic issues contributing to poverty such as education
healthcare and economic development through partnerships with government NGOS and
communities and institution can implement programs that empower individuals build resilience
and inclusive growth. (Mkumbo 2018).

Accessing the current agricultural practices: one of the very essential strategy to undergo so
that to design a successful livelihoods improvement is to assess the current different agricultural
practices in which through this will help to understand the problems and challenges in
agricultural sector as the only economic sector and source of income as well as living in a

solution and ways to be taken to as to develop the livelihood of a [Link] of the ways
to which this can be done is survey group discussion interview with farmers and observation in
farmers areas. (FAO 2021).

DESIGNED STRATEGY FOR POVERTY REDUCTION.

Capacity building and empowerment; this involves in improving skills to the members of
community in order to ensure the growth of productivity especially in agricultural activities,
many ways can be used to ensure the members of community their improving skills especially in
application of advanced equipments with highest technology and sciences for agricultural
practices for example applications of seed breeding, intercropping and crops rotations, also
empowerment may involves provisions of funds and agricultural equipments likes tractors and
combine harvesters in order to ensure the community members are self-reliant to facilitate the
growth and sustainability of agricultural productivity in the community, so that this is among of
strategy that can applied to ensure the sustainability of poverty reduction in the community.
(UNDP 2017).

Collaboration with stakeholders: stakeholders are individuals or groups who have are very
interested in the impact of a particular project or initiative. By that term of poverty reduction
strategies, stakeholders can include society members, local organizations, government agencies,
non-governmental organizations (NGOs), donors, and private sector entities so as to improve
sustainability of that matter. Apart from that Collaboration with stakeholders plays a crucial role
in ensuring the sustainability of poverty reduction strategies by bringing together diverse
perspectives, resources, and expertise or professional people. This collaborative approach fosters
buy-in, ownership, and commitment to the implementation and success of poverty reduction
initiatives in the community. So by that term stakeholders must be well involved in planning and

implementing different poverty reduction strategy that can cause or leads to outcomes and
benefits to the community sustainability. (UNDP 2017).

Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms: this play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability
of poverty reduction strategies in the community. These mechanisms help to assess the
effectiveness of various interventions identity challenges and make necessary adjustments to
improve outcomes over the [Link] mechanisms like the farming systems research
approach play a role in ensuring the sustainability of poverty reduction strategies in communities
relying primarily on agriculture for their income. Monitoring and evaluation mechanism it help
to identifying gaps and making necessary adjustments to the strategy over time through that can
help to reduce the poverty. (IFAD 2021).

CONCLUSION:

Generally: that is the strategy that can be used to improve the livelihood of the especially in
agricultural sector despite of the challenges they face in rural areas like climate change, market
fluctuation and the limited access of resources. Through all those the people in rural areas may
be able to overcome the challenges and difficulties in agricultural sector as their only activity
they depend economically and due to this can enable the rise of the development in rural areas
although they deal with only agriculture as the economic activity.
