Introduction to IPC (International Press
Corps):
IPC is not a real UN committee, it’s used to
collectively represent news agencies, journalists
and media organizations that capture the working of
UN committees. IPC is also different to other
committees in the sense that it does not have a
strict & stable flow to it, it’s quite erratic &
dynamic.
IPC provides delegates an opportunity to get out of
committee rooms and see different committees work
together, as a whole, to form a MUN.
It can be quite overwhelming and tumultuous to be a
journalist or a caricaturist, but trust me the most
fun things in life are full of chaos. You’ll enjoy
your time running between committee rooms, taking
interviews and press conferences.
Elements of IPC-
Position papers:
All delegates are required to submit 2-page position
papers. The format is as follows-
Position paper
Name of the assigned news agency
Name of the delegate and the assigned role
1. For journalists: Write an Editorial article
mirroring your news agency’s style in 500-600

words. You can choose any journalism topic that
you wish but make sure its relevant and up-to-
the mark. It shouldn’t be a thought piece like
‘My best friend’, it should be something
related to world happenings. Make sure to
follow the format (It’s mentioned somewhere in
the document).
Or
For caricaturists: Create an art piece
mirroring your news agency’s style. You can
choose any major topic that you wish but make
sure its relevant and up-to-the mark. It
shouldn’t be a thought piece like ‘My best
friend’, it should be something related to
world happenings. Make sure to follow the
format (It’s mentioned somewhere in the
document).
2. For all delegates: Write a paragraph describing
your news agency’s stance, political view and
aim. You can add things that the news agency
avoids to discuss or censors and the parts that
it loves to share and highlight in an issue.
Roles:
Delegates can either work as a journalist or a
caricaturist. Journalists- Journalists have to
observe the assigned committees and produce articles
(expository, editorial, Op-Ed articles or
interviews) that reflect the ethos of their assigned
committee. The type of article (expository,

editorial, Op-Ed articles or interviews) to be
delivered and the deadline will be told during the
committee briefing. Caricaturist- Caricaturists have
to observe the assigned committees and art pieces
(illustrations, posters, comics, or caricatures)
that reflect the ethos of their assigned committee.
The type and deadline will be declared during the
committee briefing.
Articles, Art pieces:
It is important to note that journalists (as well as
caricaturists) are required to mirror their media
agency as closely as possible, example- if you’re
assigned X media agency and that agency doesn’t give
titles to its articles then you’re also supposed to
not give titles to your articles. The same holds
true for the style of writing and the angle of
situation (good, bad, neutral etc) that is reported.
Articles- The different types are expository,
editorial, Op-Ed articles and interviews. The
journalists are required to submit either an
interview or an Op-Ed article during the first half
and either an Expository piece or an Editorial piece
during the second half. MAKE SURE TO MIRROR YOUR
ASSIGNED NEWS AGENCY IN THE INTERVIEWS, EXPOSITORY
PIECES AND EDITORIAL PIECES. You have creative reign
for the Op-Ed pieces.
Editorial: These articles reflect the perspective of
the editor of the agency, i.e., are affected by the
agency’s political leanings. (Mirror your news
agency’s style) (Word limit: 400-700 words)

Op-Ed: These are opinion pieces based on the
writer’s opinion of the situation on which he/she is
writing on. (Be creative but concise) (Word limit:
400-700 words)
Expository: This article clearly describes, explains
or informs a specific topic in a clear & logical
manner. (Mirror your news agency’s style) (Word
limit: 400-700 words)
Interviews: Video of the interview + an article
based on, influenced by the interview. Can be of two
types- Q&A and Narrative-style. (Word limit: 400-
1000 words)
Art pieces- The different types are illustrations,
posters, comics, and caricatures. Caricaturists are
required to submit two deliverables. In the first
half they have creative reign and in the second half
they’re required to copy their news agency’s drawing
style.

Procedures:
Press Conferences- All delegates (journalists &
caricaturists) of IPC are required to participate in
a press conference. The press conference will be led
by the Editor, Deputy editor and the delegates who
are assigned to that committee. Press conferences
are a great, and mostly the only, way to showcase
public speaking skills. The delegates are required
to create thought-provoking questions beforehand
which question the working of the committee,
change/affect its working and other spicy (yet

respectable) questions. The spicier questions need
to be approved by the editor or the deputy-editor.
The timings for the press conferences for each
committee will be pre-decided and shared to you
during the committee briefing session.
Interviews- The delegates are not allowed to disrupt
committee working; therefore, they should only take
interviews during lunch, tea breaks or unmoderated
caucuses. The maximum time for an interview is 5
minutes (with flexibility upto one additional minute
only. The questions should be pre-written and
approved by either the Editor or the Deputy-Editor.
But, feel free to tweak questions on-the-spot
depending on the kind of answers you’re getting from
the delegate. You are supposed to record the
interview (After telling the delegate who is being
interviewed) and share it with the Editor or the
Deputy-Editor. Also, send the name of the delegate
being interviewed along with his/her committee’s
name on the IPC group.
Factors affecting markings-
How well you mirror your news agency.
How well you articulate your thoughts.
How well your passion is displayed in your
articles/art pieces.
How well you adhere to the word time limit.
Professionalism and behavior.
The quality of your position paper

In any case of plagiarism, copying, using AI or
para-phrasing someone else’s work you will be
disqualified.
The level of your English and the use of big,
fancy words do not affect your markings. We wish
that those who write awesome articles write even
more awesome ones after leaving the MUN and those
who write average articles leave the MUN writing
awesome ones.
Requirements & miscellaneous points-
Requirements:
Make sure to bring a laptop or a tablet
(preferably a laptop) to write articles.
Bring a phone, to record interviews.

Don’t plagiarize or use AI or para-phrase someone
else’s work.
Be respectful to the delegates and the chairs.
Strictly adhere to the word and time limit.
