Group 4 Project Description

The project under consideration is identified as Dormitory Block, as referenced in the Bill of
Quantities (BOQ) document. The primary scope of our work involved the preparation of a
detailed construction schedule and the planning and allocation of resources corresponding to the
identified activities and quantities. This included defining activity sequences, durations, and
associated resource requirements in order to develop a coherent and logical project execution
plan.

During the scheduling process, a time-constrained approach was adopted rather than a
resource-constrained approach, as the project was required to be completed within the stipulated
180-day duration. In practical terms, achieving completion within this timeframe would be
challenging due to limitations in available resources, unless alternative or innovative
construction methods were employed. However, for academic and instructional purposes, the
schedule was developed based on the available project duration, assuming adequate resource
deployment, to demonstrate how the project could be planned and completed within the 180-day
contractual period.

Duration Calculation Method

The activity durations for this project were determined based on a quantity–productivity
approach. For each activity, quantities were extracted from the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and
combined with assumed or standard productivity rates for labor and equipment. The duration of
each activity was then calculated by dividing the total quantity of work by the daily production
rate, taking into account the planned number of working crews and working hours. This method
ensures that the activity durations are logically derived from actual work quantities and
execution capacity, rather than being arbitrarily assigned.

All duration calculations were carried out using Microsoft Excel, where structured worksheets
were developed to organize BOQ quantities, productivity rates, crew sizes, and resulting
durations. Excel was used to perform the necessary computations, apply consistency checks, and
make adjustments efficiently before transferring the finalized activity durations into the
scheduling software. This approach improved transparency, accuracy, and ease of revision
during the planning process.
