Q1. (a) Find the Thevenin equivalent of the circuit shown in Figure below

(b) A sinusoidal signal has a value of -5A at t =0 and reaches its first maximum
(negative) of -10A at t = 2msec.
(i) Sketch the graph
(ii) Write down the equation for i(t) and
(iii) find its value at t = 5msec. hence,
(iv) determine the frequency and period

Q2. (a) A sinusoidal current with a frequency of 60Hz reaches its positive maximum of 20A
at time 2ms. Write down the equation of this current as a function of time and
convert your answer in phasor.
(b) Perform the following operation and express the final result in polar form.
= 5 ¿ 30 ° +8←30 ° (c).
write short notes on the following
(i) Voltage source
(ii) Current Source

Q3. For a sinusoidal wave, the average value over a complete cycle is zero since the charge
transferred during the negative half cycle is just equal and opposite to that transferred
over the positive half cycle.
(i) Show that the full cycle of the voltage value is zero [10]
(ii) Thus for the wave shown in figure 2 calculate the maximum voltage value [6]

Q4 (a) A vector is represented by 20 e− j 3 . Write this vector in the following forms and

illustrate it in the vector (Cartesian) diagram.

(i) Polar form
(ii) Rectangular form
(b) Write short notes on
(i) Maximum power transfer
(ii) Norton’s theorem
(iii) Superposition Theorem

Q5. (a) Two impedances Z1 = 2 + j6 and Z2 = 6 – j12 are connected in a circuit so that they
are additive. Find their resultant impedance in the polar form
(b) Evaluate and give your answer in polar.
