COMPUTER NETWORKS - Tutorial Questions

1. An address in a block is given as [Link]. Find the class, the number of addresses in
the block, the first address, and the last address, first host and last host. Show a possible
configuration of the network that uses this block.
2. A router receives a packet with the destination address [Link]. Show how the
router finds the network address of the packet.
3. What is the subnetwork address if the destination address is [Link] and the subnet
mask is [Link]?
4. A company is granted the site address [Link] (class C). The company needs six
subnets. Design the subnets.
5. A company is granted the site address [Link] (class B). The company needs 1000
subnets. Design the subnets.
6. A company has been allocated the site address of [Link]/16 for its network. Due to
geographical locations of the company's offices, the company wishes to subnet this
network into thirteen (13) even sized subnets and allow for the expansion in the near
future. You, as a network administrator, have been asked to devise the IP subnet plan,
giving the network, first host, last host and broadcast IP addresses for each subnet you are
also required to specify the subnet mask you would use.
TUTORIAL SET #2

1. What is the first address in the block if one of the addresses is [Link]/27?
2. An organization is granted the block of IP addresses of [Link]/26. The
organization needs 4 subnets. What are the subnet addresses and the range of addresses
for each subnet.
3. An organization is granted a block of addresses with the beginning address [Link]/24.
The organization needs to have 11 subnets as below:
(a) Two subnets, each with 64 addresses. (b) Two subnets, each with 32 addresses.
(c) Three subnets, each with 16 addresses (d) four subnets, each with 4 addresses.

4. Given the Class C network of [Link]/24, subnet the network in order to create the
network in as shown in the network design Figure 3 with the host requirements shown.

5. An ISP is granted a block of addresses starting with [Link]/16. The ISP needs to
distribute these addresses to three groups of customers as follows:
I. The first group has 64 customers; each needs 256 addresses.
II. The second group has 128 customers; each needs 128 addresses.
III. The third group has 128 customers; each needs 64 addresses.
Design the subblocks and give the slash notation for each subblock. Find out how
many addresses are still available after these allocations
6. What is the supernet mask for a supernetwork composed of 16 class C addresses?
7. A supernet mask is [Link]. How many class C networks were combined to make
this supernetwork?
8. A supernet has a first address of [Link] and a supernet mask of [Link].
Which of the following packets belong to this supernet? a) [Link] b) [Link]
c) [Link] d) [Link]
9. A supernet has a first address of [Link] and a supernet mask of [Link]. How
many blocks are in this supernet, give the range of the blocks and the range of addresses?
