GRADE: IX MATHEMATICS
TIME: 3 Hours MAX MARKS: 80

General Instructions
Read the following instructions very carefully and strictly follow them:
(i)This question paper contains 38 questions. All questions are compulsory.
(ii)This question paper is divided into five Sections - A, B, C, D and E.
(iii) In Section A, Question no. 1 to 18 are multiple choice questions (MCQs) and questions
number 19 and 20 are Assertion-Reason based questions of 1 mark each.
(iv)In Section B, Question no. 21 to 25 are very short answer (VSA) type questions,
carrying 2 marks each.
(v) In Section C, Question no. 26 to 31 are short answer (SA) type questions, carrying 3 marks each.
(vi)In Section D, Question no. 32 to 35 are long answer (LA) type questions carrying 5 marks each.
(vii)In Section E, Question no. 36 to 38 are case based questions carrying 4 marks each.
Internal choice is provided in 2 marks questions in each case study.
(viii) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in 2 questions in
Section B, 2 questions in Section C, 2 questions in Section D and 3 questions in Section E.
(ix) Draw neat diagrams wherever required. Take 𝜋 = 22/7 wherever required, if not stated.
(x) Use of calculators is not allowed.

22) In the figure, if AB ║ CD, ∠APQ = 50° and ∠PRD = 127°, find x and y.

23) In parallelogram ABCD, two points P and Q are taken on diagonal BD such that DP = BQ.
Show that ∆ APD ≅ ∆ CQB

24) Equal chords of a circle (or of congruent circles) are equidistant from the centre (or centres).
OR
Chords equidistant from the centre of a circle are equal in length.
25) A hemispherical bowl is made of steel, 0.25cm thick. The inner radius of the bowl is 5cm. Find the outer
curved surface area of the bowl.
SECTION - C
Questions 26 to 31 carry 3 marks each

26) Factorize: x3 +13x2 +32x + 20

27) Look at the figure and write the following:

28) In the given figure, LM = MN, QM = MR, ML ⊥ PQ and MN⊥PR .

From the information shown in the figure, prove and write the congruence statement
29) In the given figure, O is the centre of the circle and the measure of
arc ABC is 100°. Determine ∠ADC and ∠ABC.

OR
O is the centre of the circle and ∠BAC = 25°, find ∠x.

30) Find the area of a triangular field of sides 18m, 24m and 30m. Also find the altitude corresponding to the
base 18m.

31) The volume of the two spheres are in the ratio 64: 27. Find the ratio of their surface areas.

SECTION - D

34) In the given figure, AB ║DC, ∠BDC = 35° and ∠BAD = 80°. Find x, y and z.

35) In a parallelogram ABCD, E and F are the midpoints of sides AB and CD respectively. Show that the
line segments AF and EC trisect the diagonal BD.
OR
ABCD is a quadrilateral in which P, Q, R and S are mid points of the sides AB, BC,
CD and DA. AC is a diagonal. Show that:
(i) SR ║ AC and SR = ½ AC
(ii) PQ = SR
(iii) PQRS is a parallelogram

SECTION-E (Case Study Based Questions)


Questions 36 to 38 carry 4 Marks each

36) Jagan recently read a Mathematics experiment. He was keen to perform it on his own. He chose a
compound wall (AE), he placed a mirror in the ground. He was standing at some distance from the
mirror (DB). Jagan’s height is 5m (BC) and the distance of Jagan from the mirror is 12m and distance
of the wall from mirror is also 12m and its height 5m.
On the basis of the above information, solve the following
questions.
(i) Write two congruent triangles formed in the given figure. (1)
(ii) Find the distance between top of wall and mirror. (1)
(iii) Find the area of ΔAED. (2)
OR
(iii) Find the length of AC? (2)

37) Mr. Madhu, a Mathematics teacher brings some green coloured clay in the classroom to teach the topic
Mensuration. First, he forms a cylinder then into a cone of radius 6cm and height 8cm with the clay. Then he
moulds that cone into a sphere.
(i) When clay changes from one shape to another, what is it that remains the same with respect to all the
solids? (1)

(ii) Calculate the volume of the cone. (1)


(iii) Find the total surface area of the sphere if the radius is 7 cm. (2)

OR

(iii) Find the Curved surface area of the cone. (2)


38) Rashmi was making a toy butterfly with sticks for her younger sister. She arranged the sticks as shown
in figure. AB and CD are two sticks intersecting (Joined) at O and a third stick OP is also joined to hold the
toy butterfly. Based on the above information, answer the following question-
(i) Find the value of y in the figure? (1)

(ii) At what angle does Rashmi inclined the two sticks AB and CD? (2)

OR

(ii) Name the pair of vertically opposite angles and their measures. (2)

(iii) What will be the sum of interior angles of both the wings of the butterfly?
