Time: 90 min

Page 1: Objective Type Questions (1 Mark Each)

1. Which of the following phenomenon takes place when
we add a drop of Dettol into the water?
Answer: (a) Diffusion
2. Which property of a gas helps to fill a large volume of
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cylinders?
Answer: (a) High fluidity
3. The boiling points of diethyl ether, acetone, and n-
butyl alcohol are 35°C, 56°C, and 118°C respectively.
Which one of the following correctly represents their
boiling points in Kelvin scale?
Answer: (c) 308 K, 329 K, 391 K
4. The numerical ratio of Displacement to the distance
for a moving object is:
Answer: (d) Equal or less than 1
5. Suppose cars A, B, C and D are moving on a levelled
road. The distance versus time graphs are shown in
the adjacent figure. Choose the correct statement.
Answer: (a) Car A is faster than car D
6. The total path covered by a body from initial position
to final is known as:
Answer: (d) Displacement
7. Suppose a boy is moving with a uniform velocity of 10
m/s on a merry-go-round ride. Which of the following
is true of the given scenario?
Answer: (c) The boy is moving with accelerated motion
8. ____________ is not multicellular organism.
Answer: (c) Amoeba
9. ____________ is allows or permits the entry and exit
of some material in and out of the cell.
Answer: (c) Cell membrane
10. Carbon dioxide or oxygen can move across the
cell membrane by a process called:
Answer: (b) Diffusion
11. Assertion: When Sugar and Salt are kept in a
container, they take the shape of the container.
Reason: Sugar is liquid.
Answer: (c) A is true but R is false
12. Assertion: The displacement of an object can be
either positive, negative or zero.
Reason: Displacement has both the magnitude and
direction.
Answer: (a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct
explanation of A

Page 2: Very Short Answer Questions (2 Marks Each)

13. Assertion: All plants and animals are composed
of cells.
Reason: Cell is the basic unit of non-living things.
Answer: (c) Assertion is true but Reason is false
14. Write any four characteristics of the solid state.
Answer:
o Definite shape and volume

o High density

o Incompressibility

o Strong intermolecular force of attraction

15. Distinguish between distance and displacement.

Answer:
oDistance is scalar; Displacement is vector
o Distance is total path; Displacement is shortest path

o Distance is always positive; Displacement can be

zero or negative
o Distance ≥ Displacement

16. Difference between RER and SER.

Answer:
o RER has ribosomes; SER does not

o RER helps in protein synthesis; SER helps in lipid

synthesis
o RER is rough; SER is smooth

o RER is near nucleus; SER is more peripheral

17. Define latent heat of vaporization. How will you
demonstrate that particles of matter are continuously
moving?
Answer:
Latent heat of vaporization is the heat required to convert
1 kg of a liquid into gas without temperature change.
Demo: Add potassium permanganate crystals to water
and observe how the color spreads without stirring.
18. An athlete completes one round of a circular
track of diameter 200 m in 40 s. What will be the
distance he covered and the displacement at the end
of 2 minutes 20 s?
Answer:
o One round distance = πd = 3.14 × 200 = 628 m

o Time = 140 s, Rounds = 140/40 = 3.5

o Distance = 3.5 × 628 = 2198 m

o Displacement = Diameter = 200 m (since 0.5 round

ends on opposite side)

19. Explain the structure and function of Golgi
apparatus.
Answer:
o Structure: Made of cisternae, vesicles, and tubules

o Functions: Modification, packaging of

proteins/lipids; forms lysosomes
