MULTIGRADE 7Es DLP – Math (Rounding Numbers)

Grades 3 and 4

I. LEARNING COMPETENCY
Grade 3:

- Rounds whole numbers to the nearest tens (M3NS-Ic-15)

Grade 4:

- Rounds whole numbers to the nearest tens, hundreds, and thousands (M4NS-Ie-20)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

Cognitive:

- Identify rounding rules.

- Round numbers to the nearest tens (Grade 3) and tens/hundreds/thousands (Grade 4).

Affective:

- Show willingness to participate in group activities.

Psychomotor:

- Solve rounding exercises and real-life tasks.

IV. PROCEDURES (7Es Lesson Format)

1. ELICIT (3 minutes)
Teacher shows real-life price tags (₱48, ₱87, ₱123) and asks:

“Have you seen prices like these? Why do stores sometimes round prices?”

Learners share ideas.


2. ENGAGE (5 minutes)
Game: Thumbs Up or Down

Teacher states numbers and a rounding direction (nearest 10).

Learners show 👍 if the rounding is correct, 👎 if wrong.

3. EXPLORE (8 minutes)
Learners work with number cards.

Grade 3: Identify the tens place and decide whether to round up or down.

Grade 4: Identify tens/hundreds/thousands place using color-coded place-value charts.

4. EXPLAIN (10 minutes)


Teacher explains rounding rules:

- If the digit is 0–4 → round down

- If the digit is 5–9 → round up

Examples:

Grade 3: 48 → 50

Grade 4: 3,462 → nearest hundred → 3,500.

5. ELABORATE (15 minutes)


Group Activity – Market Day Rounding

Group 1 (G3 – Tens): Round prices like 27, 44, 88.

Group 2 (G4 – Tens): Round numbers like 251, 399.

Group 3 (G4 – Hundreds): Round numbers like 2,499; 5,120.

Group 4 (G4 – Thousands): Round numbers like 6,789; 2,450.

Output: Write answers on chart paper and present.

6. EVALUATE (5 minutes)
Short Quiz:

G3: Round 32, 67, 99.

G4: Round 5,678 (nearest 10), 5,678 (nearest 100), 5,678 (nearest 1000).

7. EXTEND
Assignment:
Look at 3 numbers around your home (prices, page numbers, etc.) and round them to the
nearest 10 (G3) and 10/100/1000 (G4).
