COMPETENCE BASED EDUCATION AND TRAINING-CBET WORKPLAN
Key Definitions
Assessment:
Assessment is a procedure by which evidence is gathered during the performance of tasks in a work related
environment/workplace and judged to decide if an individual has met the stipulated learning outcomes in conformity
with the occupational standards. This is formative in nature and done during the lesson
Competence:
The term Competence refers to the integrated abilities; Knowledge, skills, attitudes, experience, attribute, values,
norms, abilities and talents required to cope with tasks in the world of work.
Competencies: these are related abilities, knowledge, skills, attitudes, experiences, attributes, values which when mastered result into
a competent learner
Competence Based Assessment:
It is a criterion-referenced procedure of gathering evidence of how an individual exhibits a group of related awareness,
knowledge, skills, attitude norms and values during the execution of a task in under a particular occupation.
Duration:
This is the time limit in which learning is expected to have taken place. It is not the time a trainer completes delivery of
a learning activity but it concerns concretizing of learning by an individual. This duration varies from learner to learner
and it also depends on the complexity of the learning activity.
Learning outcomes:
These reflect the impact of learning in communities by the graduates. The impact is not realized immediately. They are long
term achievements that change society and they are the ones a trainer should target to see that learners exhibit them during training
Learning Tasks:
These are a breakdown of a module reflected as assignable works that are observable. Tasks result in a product,
service, or decision. They represent an assignable unit of work and have a definite beginning and ending point. A
learning task is observed and measurable. During the learning process, a learner is expected to successfully and
safely accomplish it to required standards before taking on a new one.
Module:
This reflects a large volume of related learning activities (Tasks) which may be from different duties in the occupation
profile. It is a stand – alone instructional unit that is designed to satisfy one or more learning objectives and that can be
taught, measured, and evaluated independently.
Modular Training:
Modules are part(s) of a whole curriculum. Modules can be considered as “self-contained” partial qualifications which
are described by learning outcomes or competencies and which can be assessed and certified individually.
Motivation:
Motivation is developing ones’ interest/love/desire to do. It is not necessarily in monetary/gifts form but it takes various
forms.
Procedural Steps:
These are a breakdown of Learning tasks logically sequenced and must be carried out to accomplish a learning task.
They reflect the real work process activities.
Resources:
These are the enablers required in the execution of a task. They include; tools, equipment, materials both durable and
disposables.
References:
These reflect the sources of information a trainer employs during the teaching and learning process. These must be
clearly stated following the standard format.
Remarks:
These are trainer’s learning experience with the trainees’ learning process and reflecting on how well and what made
learning a success or otherwise as well as the mitigation measures for better learning

ASSESSMENT GUIDE/MARKING GUIDE
This is prepared to mark the work/practice to be done by the learners. Every Instructor must have this document when assessing
practice. Assign marks to each step/procedure learners are expected to perform to accomplish the task at hand in the practice. At the
end of practice get the total marks scored by the learner in the task and transfer the total marks to assessment sheet/mark sheet
This document helps the instructor to award marks to learners for the task performed during the lesson
