Basic Wireless Router and Host Configuration
Part 1: Configure the wireless router
Step 1: Configure the wired PC to access the wireless router for configuration
Configure PC0 with IP address
IP ......................... [Link]
Subnet mask ....... [Link]
Default gateway . [Link]
Step 2: Access and configure the wireless router
Open a browser window on PC0 and type in the IP address of Wireless_Router0 ([Link]).
When prompted, enter the username (admin) and password (admin)
Be certain to save your settings before moving between screens or tabs in the device configuration GUI.
Setup Tab
Internet Setup - Configure a static IP
a. Change the Internet Connection type to Static IP
b. Internet IP address: [Link]
c. Subnet mask: [Link]
d. Default gateway: [Link]
e. DNS 1 Address: [Link]
Network Setup - Configure DHCP
a. The router IP address and subnet mask are pre-configured to [Link] (but can be changed if needed).
b. Enable the DHCP server.
c. Set the Start IP Address to [Link].
d. Set the Maximum number of Users to 100 IP addresses for hosts on the LAN.
e. Set the Static DNS 1 to [Link]
f. Save this setting to update (scroll to the bottom of the window)
Wireless Tab
Basic Wireless Settings - Configure wireless settings as follows:
a. Click on the Wireless tab to access the Basic Wireless Settings.
b. Set the Network Name (SSID) to SCHwless.
c. Set the SSID Broadcast to Enabled to allow the SSID to be seen.
d. Save this setting to update
Wireless Security Settings - Configure wireless security settings as follows:
a. Under the Wireless tab, click on the Wireless Security category.
b. Set the Security Mode to WPA2 Personal.
c. Set the Encryption to AES.
d. Set the Passphrase to xyz123abc.
e. Save this setting to update.
f. Close the PC0 window.
Part 2: Configure the laptop as a wireless host
Step 1: Configure Laptop0 as a wireless host.
Configure Laptop0 to connect to the wireless network using the values that you configured in the Wireless Security
Settings on the wireless router.
a. Click on Laptop0.
b. Click on Desktop and select PC Wireless.
c. Click on the Connect tab and wait for the SSID to appear in the Wireless Network Name list.
d. Click on the SSID name in the window and click Connect.
e. Set the Security for the wireless LAN as WPA2 Personal.
f. Enter the Pre-shared Key as xyz123abc.
g. Click Connect (the wireless connection should appear between Laptop0 and Wireless_Router0.
Step 2: Configure the Laptop for DHCP addressing
a. Configure Laptop0 to receive its network addressing information through DHCP.
NOTE: you may need to toggle between DHCP and Static to refresh the DHCP address.
b. Verify that Laptop0 received an IP address in the correct IP address range ([Link] – [Link]).
Part 3: Verify connectivity
Step 1: Ping from the hosts in the wireless network
a. From the Command Prompt on PC0, ping R1 ([Link]). Should be successful.
b. From the Command Prompt on Laptop0, ping R1 ([Link]). Should be successful.
Note: You will not be able to ping from R1 to PC0 or Laptop0 due to a default access control list on the wireless
router.
