Project Report

The document presents a project report on an Emotion-Aware Music Recommendation System that utilizes real-time facial expression recognition to suggest music based on the user's current emotional state. The system employs a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to accurately identify emotions and has achieved a 97% accuracy on the FER-2013 dataset. The project is conducted by students from Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science, under the guidance of faculty members, and aims to enhance the music listening experience by integrating emotional intelligence into digital media.

ABSTRACT

Human emotional experience and wellbeing are greatly impacted by music.

Conventional music recommendation systems mainly depend on user behaviour.
analysis and past data, frequently overlooking the emotional context of the moment.

The project suggests a cutting-edge Music Recommendation System (MRS) that

uses real-time facial emotion recognition to make music recommendations based on the
user's attitude at the moment.
A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used by the system to provide precise
recognising facial emotions and classifying them into seven categories: Angry,
Surprise, disgust, fear, joy, neutrality, and sadness. The model records live footage.
feed through a webcam, analyses the area of the face, and forecasts the dominant
feelings. A mapping mechanism links musical emotions with
features—like volume, pitch, and tempo—with suitable music.
The system's components are integrated by an intuitive web application,
permitting analysis in real time.

The system shows great promise in affective computing and music information, with an
astounding accuracy of 97% on the FER-2013 dataset.

retrieval. This strategy opens the door for emotionally intelligent digital media platforms
by providing a more tailored and responsive music listening experience.

TOOL REQUIRED:

1. Webcam/Camera Module,Laptop with GPU
