COURSE DESCRIPTION
A comprehensive study of the 1997 Rules of Civil Procedure, as amended by **A.M. No.
19-10-20-SC (The 2019 Amendments to the 1997 Rules of Civil Procedure)**. The course
covers General Principles, Jurisdiction, Cause of Action, Parties, Venue, Pleadings, Filing and
Service, Summons, Motions, Dismissal of Actions, Pre-Trial, Trial, Demurrer to Evidence,
Judgments, and Post-Judgment Remedies (up to Rule 39). It includes an analysis of relevant
provisions of the Constitution, Batas Pambansa Blg. 129 (Judiciary Reorganization Act of
1980) as amended, and significant Supreme Court decisions.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOS)
Upon completion of this course, the student is expected to:
CLO 1. Knowledge: Demonstrate a mastery of the Rules of Civil Procedure, specifically the
2019 Amendments, and the distinct concepts of jurisdiction and venue.
CLO 2. Analysis: Analyze complex fact patterns to determine the appropriate procedural
remedies and the correct court for filing actions.

CLO 3. Application: Draft compliant pleadings, motions, and judicial affidavits in accordance
with the efficient use of paper rule and the 2019 Amendments.
CLO 4. Ethics: exhibit a commitment to the ethical duties of a lawyer in litigation, preventing
delays, and promoting the swift administration of justice.

CLASSROOM POLICIES
1. Attendance: Attendance is checked every meeting. Three (3) consecutive absences or
incurring absences of more than 20% of the total class hours may result in a failing
grade (Dropped).
2. Recitation: The Socratic Method is the primary mode of instruction. Students who
are called to recite but are absent or unprepared shall receive a grade of 60 for that
recitation.
3. Examinations: No special examinations will be given for missed quizzes or major
exams unless there is a valid reason (e.g., medical emergency) supported by a medical
certificate or official document.
4. Mobile Devices: All mobile phones must be in silent mode during class.
5. Academic Integrity: Any form of cheating or plagiarism will be dealt with in accor-
dance with the Bicol University Student Handbook.
