Technology assessment is the evaluation process of analyzing information about a technology to make informed decisions regarding its selection, development, or management. Key objectives include identifying advantages and disadvantages, selecting suitable devices for use, and applying appropriate technologies in projects. Assessment criteria vary by technology and product, focusing on effectiveness, reliability, economic efficiency, environmental impact, and other factors, with specific examples provided for 3D printing and stove comparisons.

Overview of Technology Assessment

1. Definition
Technology assessment refers to the process of making evaluations based on the analysis of
collected information about a specific technology. These evaluations are compared against
established criteria in order to propose suitable decisions for the selection, development, or
management of the technology.
2. Objectives
 To identify both the advantages and disadvantages of a given technology.
 To select suitable technological devices for personal or family use.
 To choose appropriate technologies to apply in scientific and technical projects.

II. Technology and Technological Product Assessment

1. Criteria for Assessing Technology
There are multiple criteria for assessing technology, which may vary depending on the specific
technology being evaluated. Some common criteria include:
 Effectiveness: Evaluates productivity, quality, and aesthetics of the technological
product.
 Reliability: Assesses the accuracy and stability of the technology.
 Economic Efficiency: Considers investment costs and returns during usage.
 Environmental Impact: Measures effects on the surrounding environment (e.g., air,
water, noise pollution).
 Other Factors: Such as the availability of raw materials and the type of fuel required.

Criteria Injection Molding 3D Printing Explanation
High output, 3D printing has lower productivity

Conclusion:
The appropriate production method should be selected based on production volume. Injection
molding is more suitable for mass production, while 3D printing is better for small-scale or
single-item production.
2. Criteria for Assessing Technological Products
Each technological product has its own set of evaluation criteria depending on its specific
characteristics. The importance of each criterion may also differ by product type. Common
evaluation criteria include:
 Structure/Build of the Product
 Functionality
 Durability
 Aesthetic Design
 Cost
 Environmental Impact
Example: Comparison between Gas Stoves and Infrared Stoves
Criteria Gas Stove Infrared Stove
Structure Simple Complex
Narrow temperature range; potential fire Wide temperature range;
Functionality

Durability High Lower
Cost and Fuel Low High
Environmental
No significant pollution No significant pollution
Impact
Conclusion:
Both types of stoves have their own strengths and weaknesses. The choice should be based on
specific user needs and preferences.

Additional Information
In addition to the criteria mentioned above, when assessing appliances like fans, it is also
necessary to consider other characteristics such as:
 Space occupied
 Mobility and flexibility
