Circles

The document presents a series of mathematical problems related to circles, including properties of tangents, inscribed circles, and relationships between angles and lengths in geometric figures. It covers various proofs and calculations involving quadrilaterals, triangles, and circles, with specific measurements provided for some problems. The problems require knowledge of geometry and theorems related to circles to solve.

CIRCLES – (8 marks)

Notes:-
∠𝐴𝑄𝐵 =?
1. A circle with centre O and radius 8 cm is inscribed in a quadrilateral
ABCD in which P, Q, R, S are the points of contact as shown. If AD is
perpendicular to DC, BC=30 cm and BS = 24cm, then find the length
DC.

2. Tangent PA and AQ are drawn to circle with center O from an

external point A proe that ∠PAQ = 2 ∠OPQ.
3. Prove that the tangents drawn at the end points of a chord of a circle makes equal angles with the
chord.
4. If two tangents inclined at an angle of 60° are drawn to a circle of radius 3 cm, then find the length
of each tangent.
5. Prove that the tangents drawn at the ends of a diameter of a circle are parallel.
6. Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
7. Two concentric circles are of radii 5 cm and 3 cm. Find the length of the chord of the larger circle
which touches the smaller circle.
8. Two tangents BC and BD are drawn to a circle with center O from a point B, such that ∠CBD =
1200. Prove that OB = 2BC.

9. Provae that the tangent drawn at the mid-point of an arc of a circle is parallel to the chord joining
the end points of the arc.

10. A backyard is in the shape of a triangle ABC with right angle at B. AB = 7m and BC = 15m. A circular
pit was dug inside it such that it touches the wall AC, BC and AB at P, Q and R respectively such
that AP = x m.
11. In the give fig., a circle is inscribed in a quadrilateral ABCD in which ∠B = 900. If AD = 17cm, AB =
20cm and DS = 3cm, then find the radius of the circle.

12. In the given fig., O is the centre of the circle and PR is a tangent to it at P. Prove that ∠QAP + ∠APR
= 900.

13. In the given fig, PT is a tangent to the circle centered at O. OC is perpendicular to chord AB. Prove
that PA. PB = PC2 – AC2.

14. A triagle ABC is drawn to circumscribe a circle of radius 4cm such that the segment BD and DC are
of lengths 10cm and 8cm respectively. Find the lengths of the sides AB and AC, if it is gien that area
∆ABC = 90 cm2.
