Introduction:
A geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry such as
perimeter, area and the characteristics of triangles and other polygons. It consists of a physical board
with a certain number of nails half driven in, around which are wrapped geo bands that are made of
rubber. It was invented by the Egyptian mathematician and pedagogist Caleb Gattegno (1911-1988) as a
manipulative tool for teaching elementary geometry in schools.
Benefits:
Hands-On Learning: Geoboards offer a physical and visual way of learning mathematical concepts, which
can be more effective than learning through abstract methods.
Developing Fine Motor Skills: For younger students, using geoboards can help develop fine motor skills.
Encouraging Creativity: Geoboards allow for open-ended exploration and encourage creativity. There’s
no limit to the shapes and designs that can be created.
Significance:
The group enhance the mathematical tool to help the students in their problem-solving skills and they
will be able to create questions regarding on the areas and measurement of the shapes.
