Module
Central and Inscribed Angles and
their Intercepted Arcs
1. Subject(s): Mathematics 10
2. Objective(s):
● proves the theorem related to chords, arcs, central angles and inscribed angles.
3. Grade/Section: Grade 10 - St. Thomas
4. Materials: Math Quiz Notebook, pen
5. Time Allotment: 30 minutes
Summary
In a circle, a central angle is formed by two radii, while an inscribed angle is formed by two
chords:
Central angle
● An angle with the center of the circle as its vertex and two radii as its sides. The
measurement of a central angle is equal to the measurement of the arc it subtends.
Inscribed angle
● An angle whose vertex lies on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle. The
measurement of an inscribed angle is half of the measurement of the arc it subtends
Activities and Practice
Instruction: Solve for the missing arcs of the following central and inscribed angles. Illustrate a
figure from the given degrees. Show your work and box your final answer.
Central Angles:
1. If the measurement of angle ABC = 30°, then arc AC = ___.
2. If the measurement of angle OBD = 45°< then arc OD = ___.
3. If the measurement of angle OBA = 70°, then arc OA = ___.
4. If the measurement of angle CBD = 90°, then arc CD = ___.
Inscribed Angles:
1. If the measurement of angle OJT = 90°, then arc OT = ___.
2. If the measurement of angle WER = 123°, then arc WR = ___.
3. If the measurement of angle GTU = 18°, then arc GU = ___.
4. If the measurement of angle NMB = 56°, then arc NB = ___.
Assessment/Assignment
Instruction: Illustrate a circle with the following given:
● a center (point M)
