ABSTRACT
Road safety in low-end and mid-range vehicles is frequently compromised by limited
visibility, high-beam glare, and delayed signaling, which collectively contribute to a high
rate of accidents. This project “Embedded Based Smart and Safe Vehicle System” presents
a cost-effective embedded approach to enhance driver visibility, signaling, and situational
awareness using intelligent lighting and sensor technologies.
The system integrates adaptive headlights that automatically adjust beam direction and
intensity according to steering input, vehicle speed, and surrounding light conditions,
providing improved illumination on curves and during adverse weather. A smart high-beam
controller senses oncoming traffic and instantly switches to low beam to reduce glare. A
color-changing mechanism optimizes headlight color (white/yellow) depending on fog, rain,
or darkness, improving contrast and reducing driver fatigue.
Complementing the lighting system, automatic turn indicators activate and deactivate based
on steering angle, minimizing human error and ensuring clear communication to other road
users. Ultrasonic sensors detect nearby obstacles and provide audio/visual alerts to prevent
collisions at low speeds. Together, these modules create a scalable and retrofit-friendly
solution for budget vehicles.
Built around an Arduino R4 microcontroller, the system integrates LDR, DHT-11, ultrasonic
modules, and servo motors, with coding in Arduino IDE and modeling in Tinkercad to
ensure reliability before deployment. By combining low-cost hardware with embedded
intelligence, this project demonstrates how safety features typically seen in high-end cars can
be adapted for broader use, ultimately contributing to safer roads and reducing accident
rates.
