Activity: Machine Illustration and Operation

Objective
To develop understanding of machine shop equipment through illustration, identification of parts, proper operation, and
safety practices.
Instructions:
Choose ONE (1) machine only from the list below:
1. Lathe Machine
2. Milling Machine
3. Drill Press
4. CNC Machine (Lathe)
5. CNC Machine (Milling)
6. Shaper / Planer

Report Contents and Format
The written report must include the following sections
1. Introduction
• Brief description of the selected machine
• Its general purpose and common applications in a machine shop
2. Machine Illustration (You can allocate a single page for this and make it landscape)
• Include a clear illustration of the selected machine. Students may choose to:
o Hand-draw the machine and digitize it for the report
o Use a stock or digital image (must be properly labeled)
• The illustration must have labeled major parts.
3. Labeled Parts and Functions
• Proper labeling of the major parts of the machine
• A brief explanation of the function of each labeled part
4. Operating Procedure
• A clear, step-by-step explanation of how the machine is properly operated
• Procedures should follow correct machine shop practices
5. Safety Precautions
• Required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Proper clothing and personal conduct
• Safety checks before operation
• Safe practices during machine operation
• Proper shutdown and cleanup procedures
6. Conclusion
• Short summary emphasizing the importance of proper operation and safety
