Satyavan, what is wrong? Why do you look so pale?

Just then, Yama, the God of Death, appeared.

**Yama:**

Savitri, your husband's time on earth is over. I have come to take his soul.

**Savitri:**

Lord Yama, please take me instead!

**Yama:**

No, Savitri, you are very devoted, but it is Satyavan's time.

**Narrator:**

Savitri pleaded with Yama and followed him as he took Satyavan's soul.

**Yama:**

You are brave, Savitri. Ask for any blessing – except your husband's life.

Please bless Satyavan's parents.

**Yama:**

Granted.

**Savitri:**

Please bless my father’s kingdom.

Granted.

Please bless me with children.

You are truly devoted, Savitri. I will return Satyavan’s life to you.

Yama returned Satyavan’s soul, and Satyavan woke up as if from a deep

sleep. Savitri and Satyavan hugged each other happily.

**Savitri:**

And so, Savitri’s love and courage brought her husband back to life, and they
lived happily ever after.
