Project Title
Music Reactive LED Flashlight
Circuit

Objective
To design and implement a simple analog circuit
that converts audio signals (from phone/music)
into visual light patterns using LEDs. The
intensity and number of glowing LEDs will vary
according to the amplitude/frequency of the input
sound (VU meter + rhythm effect).
Introduction & Applications
- Real-time sound-to-light conversion
- Mini disco light / party torch
- Excellent demonstration of transistor
amplification & switching
- Low-cost educational project for signal
processing concepts

Components List
Electret Microphone
BC547 NPN Transistor
Amplification + LED switching
1MΩ Resistor
10kΩ Resistor
220Ω Resistor
LEDs (Red/Green mix)
100nF (0.1µF) Capacitor
9V Battery + Clip
SPST Switch
Breadboard & Jumper wires

Working Principle
1. Electret mic captures sound and generates
weak electrical signal.
2. First transistor stage works as pre-amplifier.
3. Amplified signal is distributed to remaining 8
transistor bases.
4. Each transistor acts as a switch – stronger
signal turns on more LEDs progressively (like a
simple 8-level VU meter).
5. 100nF capacitor removes unwanted noise.
Result → LEDs“dance” according to music rhythm

Block Diagram
Mic → Pre-Amplifier → Multi-stage Transistor
Switches → 8× LEDs → Visual Rhythm

Advantages
- Completely analog (no microcontroller/Arduino)
- Very low cost (< 500 PKR)
- Easy to build on breadboard
- Clear demonstration of transistor as amplifier &
switch
- Impressive live demo with music
Future Scope
- Add RGB LEDs with color organ (3-band filter)
- Use WS2812B + ATtiny85 for full programmable
effects
- Convert into rechargeable USB version

Conclusion
This project is ideal for university lab because it
combines basic electronics concepts (biasing,
amplification, switching) with a visually appealing
output that works instantly with any music
source.
