Novus: A Flagship Event of IEEE SB ASIET
Novus, an eagerly anticipated flagship event, is organised annually by IEEE SB ASIET
exclusively for its members. Spanning four days, it includes both technical and non-technical
rounds aimed at enhancing students' skills and fostering professional development.
Event Structure and Phases
Novus consists of four distinct phases:
Phase 1: Treasure Hunt
Teams navigate clues and tasks, promoting teamwork, communication, and quick decision-
making. Points are awarded based on completion time and correct answers.
Phase 2: Just A Minute (JAM)
Participants engage in impromptu speaking sessions on assigned topics with minimal
preparation time. This phase enhances public speaking skills, confidence, and quick thinking.
Phase 3: Individual Events
Activities include photography, digital drawing, poem writing, poster designing, reel creation, and
article writing. Participants showcase creativity and technical proficiency.
Phase 4: Mock Interviews
Participants undergo mock interviews, preparing for ten minutes before answering questions as a
notable individual. This phase improves interview skills and builds confidence.
Novus, held annually at ASIET, delivers substantial benefits for both students and organizers.
For students, the event offers a diverse array of opportunities to enhance essential skills such as
problem-solving, creativity, public speaking, and interviewing. Competitive tasks challenge
students and help build self-confidence, while networking opportunities allow them to connect
with peers, mentors, and professionals in their field. Team-based activities promote effective
collaboration, fostering a sense of teamwork and shared purpose, and mock interviews provide
valuable, hands-on experience that simulates real-world scenarios.
Organizers of Novus also gain significant advantages. They develop vital leadership, project
management, and event planning skills, which are crucial for personal and professional growth.
The process of organizing such a large-scale event enhances their problem-solving capabilities,
encourages teamwork, and adds considerable value to their professional profiles. These
experiences contribute to their ability to manage complex projects and lead teams effectively.
Over the past three years, Novus has made a notable impact by increasing creativity and skill
development among participants. This success has been reflected in a rise in IEEE membership
at ASIET, demonstrating the event's growing influence and effectiveness. Novus fosters a
supportive and motivating environment that drives participants to excel and form lasting
connections. As the event continues to grow each year, it reaffirms its commitment to enhancing
skills and promoting professional development. This ongoing growth highlights the increasing
enthusiasm and engagement with IEEE activities at ASIET, preparing IEEE SB ASIET members
for future challenges and contributing to the broader IEEE community.
