PROGRAM DESIGN

I. TITLE: Junior High School Sci-Math Month

II. Activity Description:

In celebration of Sci-Math Month 2025, the Junior High School Department proudly
launches a series of innovative and intellectually stimulating activities. Classroom-
based and school-wide activities will be held on September 15-18, 2025. This
celebration aims to highlight the importance of Science and Mathematics in shaping
critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among learners. It focuses on
showcasing students’ ingenuity, analytical skills, and scientific curiosity through
engaging and meaningful activities. The event will serve as a platform for students to
appreciate the power of Science and Mathematics in understanding the world, fostering
collaboration, school spirit, and inclusivity.

Science Month Theme: "Spatialyze: Surveying Societies, Sensing Solutions”


Mathematics Month Theme: "Mathematics: Arts and Creativity”

III. Objectives:

 To promote appreciation of Science and Mathematics as essential tools in


understanding and addressing real-world challenges that affect society and global well-
being.
 To foster creativity and innovation by integrating arts, critical thinking, and problem-
solving skills into science and mathematics-related activities.

IV. Proposed Activities/ Mechanics

“Mathematics in Nature” Photography Contest


(For All Grade Levels (7-10))
Theme: “Mathematics: Arts and Creativity”
Mechanics:
1. The competition includes the Junior High School students.
2. The participants must submit an original photo accompanied by an essay/explanation (100-
300 words).
3. The photos and essay/explanation should be aligned with the theme of “Mathematics: Arts
and Creativity”.
4. The photos must be high resolution with clear written essay.
5. Acceptable files format: JPEG/PNG for photos.
6. The participants must submit the file through PDF format.

Judging Criteria:
 Creativity & Originality: 40%
 Relevance to Theme: 20%
 Explanation: 20%
 Overall Impact: 20%
“Sci-Math Fusion Wiz Bee: Battle of Brains”
MECHANICS:

1. Participants

 Each section in every grade level shall have two (2) representatives.
 The representatives will compete as a team for their respective section.

2. Rounds of the Wiz Bee

 The competition will consist of three (3) levels of difficulty:

EASY ROUND

 Number of Questions: 10 Science + 10 Math


 Type: Multiple Choice (A–D)
 Points: 2 points per correct answer
 Time Limit: 10 seconds per question

AVERAGE ROUND

 Number of Questions: 8 Science + 8 Math


 Type: Multiple Choice (A–B)
 Points: 3 points per correct answer
 Time Limit: 15 seconds per question

DIFFICULT ROUND

 Number of Questions: 5 Science + 5 Math


 Type: Identification (no choices given)
 Points: 5 points per correct answer
 Time Limit: 20 seconds per question
 Special Note:
For terms: spelling must be correct.
For computations: answers must have correct numbers and proper units.

3. Procedures

 Questions will be flashed on the screen.


 Contestants must write their answer on their white board and raise it
simultaneously once the time is up.
 Only answers that are raised within the allotted time will be considered.
 Erasures and unclear answers will not be honored.
 For multiple-choice items, the letter only (A, B, C, or D) is accepted unless otherwise
specified.
 For identification items (difficult round), the spelling must be correct (except for
minor errors that do not alter meaning) and answers must have correct numbers
and proper units.

4. Scoring

 Each correct answer will be scored according to the point value of its round (2 points
each for easy round, 3 points each for average round, and 5 points for difficult round).
 Scores from Science and Math are added together.
 The team with the highest total score after all rounds will be declared the
Champion.

5. Tie-Breaker Rule
 In case of a tie, an additional set of sudden-death questions (both Science and
Math) will be given.
 The first team to score correctly while the other team fails will be declared the winner.

6. Fairness

 Scores will be computed equally and fairly by the tabulators.


 Judges’ decisions are final and irrevocable.

SCI-AWIT COMPETITION

Theme: “Spatialize: Surveying Society, Sensing Solution”

MECHANICS
1. Participants

 The competition is open to groups composed of minimum of 15 members.


2. Performance Requirements

 Each group must present a song and dance performance related to the theme.
 The song may be an original composition, a parody (with modified lyrics), or an adapted
piece aligned with science, technology, and society.
 Dance routines must complement the song (no purely singing or purely dancing).
3. Time Limit

 Minimum: 3 minutes
 Maximum: 5 minutes
(Exceeding time will result in a 1-point deduction for every 30 seconds)
4. Music and Instruments

 Background music should be prepared and SUBMITTED TO THE COMMITTEE BEFORE


THE EVENT.
 Live instruments are allowed but must be included within the given time limit.
5. Costume and Props

 Costumes must be decent, safe, and theme-appropriate.


 Props are allowed but should be manageable and NOT cause stage hazards.
6. Language

 ONLY English language should be used.


7. Stage Conduct
- Each section is given 1 minute for stage preparation and 1 minute for exit.
- Any act that promotes disrespect or unsafe behavior will lead to disqualification.

8. Judging
- A panel of 3–5 judges will score based on the given criteria.
- The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING (100%)
1. Relevance to Theme – 25%
- Lyrics, message, and performance strongly reflect the theme Spatialize: Surveying Society,
Sensing Solution.

2. Musicality and Singing – 20%


- Voice quality, pitch, timing, and harmony (for group singing).

3. Choreography and Performance – 20%


- Creativity, synchronization, stage presence, and energy in dance routines.

4. Originality and Creativity – 15%


- Uniqueness of interpretation, fresh approach, use of props and costume.

5. Audience Impact and Showmanship – 10%


- Ability to captivate, engage, and entertain the audience.

6. Overall Unity and Coordination – 10%


- Balance and integration of singing and dancing; seamless teamwork.

“Trash-ion Show”
Mechanics of the Trash-ion Show

1. Participants
• The contest is exclusive for Grade 7 and Grade 8 students only.
• Each entry must consist of 1 participant (model) and 1 assistant.
• Role of the Assistant:
- Helps in designing and preparing the costume.
- Assists the model backstage (e.g., dressing, props, adjustments).
- Cannot walk the runway or participate in the on-stage presentation.

2. Materials
• Outfits must be made of at least 80% recycled, reusable, or eco-friendly materials (e.g., plastic
bottles, cartons, old newspapers, sachets, cans, fabric scraps).
• Hazardous materials (sharp metals, broken glass, etc.) are not allowed for safety reasons.

3. Design Concept
• Costumes should highlight creativity, originality, and sustainability.
• Participants must provide a short description (50–100 words) of their design inspiration and
how their outfit promotes environmental awareness.

4. Presentation
• Models will walk the runway and showcase the outfit.
• Each entry will be given 2–3 minutes on stage.
• Optional: participants may add props or background music (must be school-appropriate).

5. Judging
• A panel of judges (teachers/guests) will evaluate based on the criteria below.
• Scores will be tallied, and winners will be announced at the end of the program.
