LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 3
I. Objectives Subject: Mathematics 3
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of continuous
and repeating patterns and mathematical sentences
involving multiplication and division of whole numbers.
The learner is able to apply knowledge of continuous and
B. Performance Standard repeating patterns and number sentences involving
multiplication or division of whole numbers in various
situations.
The learner determines the missing term/s in a given
combination of continuous and repeating pattern.

Instructional Procedures
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill Lead pupils to determine the missing number.
1. 2 +2=_____
2. ____ - 3 = 5
3. 4 x ____ = 28
4. 36 ÷ 6 = ____
5. ___ x 5 = 50
2. Review Review the previous lesson.
Ask: Who can recall our previous lesson?
Show the pictures. Let pupils identify if the pictures are
symmetrical or not symmetrical.
3. Motivation Ask: Are you familiar with the game SPOT the
DIFFERENCE?
Present the mechanics to the pupils.
Group the pupils into two. Each group should choose a
leader. Present these two pictures to both groups. Let
each group identify the differences of the pictures by
encircling both the differences they noticed. The leaders
of each group will present their answers.

This activity we had taken has something to do with our
topic for today.
B. Developmental
Activities
1. Presenting the Lesson Present a basket to the students with three kinds of cut-
out fruits inside.
Say: I have here a basket. Inside this basket contains
apples, oranges and bananas.
Bring out first the apple, ask the pupils what kind of fruit
it is. Next, bring out the orange followed by the banana
and ask the same question. Then, bring out again another
apple, orange and banana in the same order.
Ask: What do you think is the next fruit that I am going to
bring out? Why?
Say: This set of fruits is example of Repeating Patterns.
Repeating patterns are sequence of shapes, objects, or
numbers that repeat constantly and regularly. One can
predict the next term or missing term by looking at the
regularity of the shapes, objects, or numbers repeated.
Say: Look at the given shapes. How are the shapes
arranged? What do they form? What shape should be put
on the blank?
_______
Say: Now, look at these numbers. How are the numbers
arranged? What is the next number in the pattern? Why?
1A 2B 3C ___ 5E 6F ___ 8H 9I
2. Performing the Activity A. Individual Activity
Have the class identify the missing objects in the given
pattern.
1. ______
_______
2.
________ _______
3. 2 4 6 _____ 10 12 ____
4. ____
_____
B. Group Activity
Group the class into two. Let them choose a leader.
Provide a worksheet and an envelope containing cut-outs
for each group. Let them use the cut-outs to identify the
missing terms in the given pattern.
___________
___________ ____________
5 10 _________ 20 25 ____________
35 40 ___________ 50
GROUP 1
_______ ______ ________
A a A a ____ a A ____ A a _____ a A
_____ A a
GROUP 2
Let the group leader present their works.
4. Processing the Activities Discuss the answers of the group.
Ask: In group 1, what is the next object? Number? Why?
How about in group 2, what are the missing shapes and
letters? Why?
5. Reinforcing the concept Look at the pattern in the column A. Choose the objects
that will complete the pattern in the column B.
Column A Column B

_______
1. Summarizing the lesson How can you identify the missing terms in a given
pattern of shapes, figures or numbers?
Look how the figures or shapes are arranged and
identify which shapes repeat over and over.
How can you find the missing number/s in a given
pattern or sequence?
Determine if the numbers are arranged in
increasing or decreasing order.
Use the sum or difference between numbers to
find the missing number
Say: Again, Repeating patterns are sequence of shapes,
objects, or numbers that repeat constantly and regularly.
One can predict the next term or missing term by looking
at the regularity of the shapes, objects, or numbers
repeated.
2. Applying to New and By pair activity. Make your own pattern using any
Other Situations objects, numbers, shapes or letters of your choice.
IV. Evaluation Find the missing term in the patterns. Choose your
answer from the Column B. Encircle the correct answer.
V. Home Activity Complete the pattern given.
