PASCAL’S TRIANGLE
INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS PASCAL’STRIANGLE?
• PASCAL’STRIANGLE is a triangular
arrangement which Begin with 1 on the top
and with 1's running down the two sides of
a triangle. Each new number lies between
two numbers and below them.
• IT IS ALSO AN AMAZING NUMBER PATTERN
THAT CREATES A PYRAMID OR TRIANGLE SHAPE
OUT OF THE BINOMIAL COFFICIENTS
• WHO INVENTED PASCAL’STRIANGLE?
• Blaise Pascal, a French philosopher,
mathematician, scientist, inventor, and
theologian.
FACTS ABOUT PASCAL’STRIANGLE
• The triangle is symmetric.
• The sums of the rows give the powers of 2.
• Each row is the powers of 11 when you concatenate the
numbers.
• The first diagonal shows the counting numbers.
• The second diagonal has counting numbers i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, 7 etc.(NATURAL NUMBER), which is a sequence of
integers.
• The third diagonal of Pascal's triangle has sequence of
numbers 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21 etc CALLED THE TRIANGULAR
NOS.
• In Pascal's Triangle, each number is the sum of the two
numbers above it.
• A binomial coefficient is represented by each number.
• THE SUM OF THE DIAGONALS REPRESENT THE FIBONACCI
SEQUENCE .
• THE SUM OF TWO CONSECUTIVE NUMBERS ARE THE
SQUARE NUMBERS.
USES OF PASCAL’S TRIANGLE
• IT CAN BE USED IN VARIOUS WAYSSUCH AS –
• Binomial Expansion: Pascal's Triangle provides a systematic
way to expand binomial expressions, such as (a + b)^n. The
coefficients in the expansion are the numbers in the nth row
of the triangle, and they can be used to calculate the terms in
the expansion without having to multiply out all the terms
individually.
• Calculating Powers: The pascal’s triangle can help calculate
the powers of a binomial expression without the need for
multiplication. For example, if you want to find (a + b)^5, you
can simply look up the fifth row of Pascal's Triangle to get the
coefficients.
• Combinatorics: Pascal's Triangle is a valuable tool for solving
problems in combinatorics, the branch of mathematics that
deals with counting objects.
• For example ,imagine you had tossed 6 coins and want to
know how many different ways are there to get only 2tails , it
can either be done by using the formula{ n!/(n-r)!r!} or by
seeing the Pascal’s triangle 6th row 3rd entry .hence answer is
“15”.
